if u r into research.. either a scientist or a research scholar.. why don't u share some of ur experiences, ur work, ur interest(s) in research, etc...
i am a research scholar, working in the area of molecular microbiology, and i am in my final stages of my ph.d... rest later.. one by one..

pls continue this thread :).. not only the people in the science field but also others...

  I am into research in number theory :) Not as a profession, but as a pastime!
  
  I will give an example of the latest thing that occupy my thoughts. Have you heard of hailstorm numbers? Creating a sequence is simple. All you need is to follow the steps below
  
  1. Choose a number
  2. If it's odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1 to it
  3. If the result is even, divide it by 2
  4. Continue with (3) or (4) depending on
  whether you get an odd or an even number.
  
  Where would you end up with? All the numbers hitherto tested(upto ten thousands) seem to end
  in the sequence 4,2,1. Scientists have been trying to find out a mathematical proof for this
  behaviour but noone in the past 70 yrs has succeeded so far!!!
