I would be grateful if anybody can please throw light on the reactions of families and society if a vannikula kshatriya guy wants to marry a mudaliar girl? How taboo is it?

  There is a tribe on the borders of Manipur and Nagaland in North East India. They have a periodical fair where people from various villages of their tribe meet. The young girl, when she wants to find a husband, tells her father her intention. The father builds her a hut a little distance away from the hamlet and keeps eatables to last for a month. The girl goes to the fair a picks up a young man. They live together in the hut for thirty days. If on the 30th day the girl and the boy come out of the hut together their marriage is solemnised.
  If the girl leaves the hut earlier than 30 days, or if the boy and the girl come out seperately on the 30th day, they are not married. The important point is, in such case the boy has to pay a heavy penalty covering the cost of the food and much more.

  Ha Ha, nice hey, woman ruled. The girl picks up a guy and brings him back to her hut, sounds very mordern day:-),
  And plus why do you think us woman marry?, so we can get free food of course.
  Re: leaving the hut seperately on the 30th day, they should learn a lesson from tamil movies, it takes only one drunken night to get lady pregnant.
  I read another one in F.H, where girl goes to the well to fetch water and then can come back home with a husband in tow, moral of the story, Happily single guys should not hang around wells. That still happens except the wells have now changed to Bars(watering holes), girl can go to bar and come back married.:-)

  Re; men and woman being possessive over men and making their lives hell, I will comment from a woman's point of view
  It is true that not all men become dogs, but most of them do need a leash.
  You see it is like this, they have no idea what the word self discipline is except when it comes to wife's spending money. A woman has to have a rope and know when to loosen and tighten the noose. If you think that a guy can respect certain things like his freedom to go out and have a drink with the boys and be back by 10, at 11pm you will be phoning and he is still in the bar.
  See woman are constantly tired because of loosening the rope (cos men can whine), and tightening the rope(cos men suffer from amnesia)
  Shame they really forget what time of night it is, or that they have a wife at home when they are out with friends.

  This is serious. Tribals usually have very little feudal heirarchies and have uncomplicated social, political and economic system. Obviously the genders are equally balanced out empowerment-wise in such a system.   I think you are right fridge!
  By the time we reach 40 our activities and responisbilities will have increased tremendously. We have to attend a lot of late evening official meetings which start at 8 PM and go on up to 12 - 1 O'clock. Many times we have to go on official tours for monitoring and enacting MOUs, especially on days touching holidays! Obviously the wife has to look after the home and children! How can we really manage without the wives? (Pun on the plural unintended!!)

  Woman these days are very accomodating, these late night official meetings are okay, even till 1 in the morning, Okay so when you pitch up in the morning, the door is locked from the inside and she pretends she cannot hear you, so chances are you will be sleeping peacenook for a while, but that is okay.
  These official tours are also okay, so long as you leave your checkbook, credit cards and lots of cash so wife can employ a baby sitter and go out and have some fun while pretending to miss you, Fair is fair hey,
  Now if wife is honest and tells you she is going to have facial, body massage and coffee with friends, no need for husband to get paranoid and take time off work to follow wife(this is what men do ), wife trusts man who is working long hours to bring the money, so man should trust wife who is walking alone down the road looking very pretty in Sari, i mean the neighbour's husband is as faithfull as husband is and would never look sidewards at wife, Ja this is true hey Shekar.
