CHRISTMAS: Taking the CHRIST Out Of Christmas, i.e. The Pagan Origins of Christmas
Who's the first person you think of when it comes to Christmas. While the religious might say "Jesus", many others in our secular society would say "Santa Claus".
And they wouldn't be completely wrong. Christmas is an example of a religious "holiday" that has little to do with Christianity and more to do with pagan (non-Christian) appeasement and nature worship.
Jesus, for Christians represents some of these things: commitment to One God, spirituality, simplicity, humbleness, kindness and generosity.
But Jesus is becoming more and more absent from the Christian celebration that is meant to commemorate his birth. In reality, many of the rituals associated with Christmas are paganistic or from the practices of nature worshipers, not connected to the worship of One God or to Jesus.
Let's start with his birth. December 25 is the date to celebrate Christmas. In reality though, even Christian theological discussions pinpoint that the Jesus’ birth not to the winter season, but in the summer time.
In Christian tradition, the story of the three wise men heading to see baby Jesus travel on sheep. At the time of Jesus's birth, shepherds were putting their flocks outside in Bethlehem and Nazareth. This could only be done in warm weather.
Next, the specific date of December 25 which has been selected as the Jesus's birth date is clearly connected to the Roman and Greek pagan
concept of Mithras.
Mithras was believed by the Romans and Greeks to be the son of the main sun god, who was born on December 25. In addition, very similar to Christian concepts about Jesus, Mithras sacrificed himself for the sins of the people. He also had a sacrament of blood and wine.
Other Christmas rituals are also linked to paganism or nature worship.
For example, the mistletoe. Today, the mistletoe is hung up and two members of the opposite sex standing underneath it are expected to kiss.
The Druids were a cult of pagan priests who followed a religion practiced before the arrival of Christianity in England, Scotland and Ireland. They considered the mistletoe a symbol of fertility. If a husband and wife wanted a child, they would go under it and it was supposed to bring holiness and fertility.
The Christmas tree is another example of a clearly pagan tradition. In the Northern countries like England, Scotland and France for instance, winters were severe and harsh. Many would lose family members during this season. As well, all trees were dead except for one: the fir tree. It therefore represented life.
As a result many people placed the fir tree in their homes as a symbol of life, with the hope that having it inside their homes would bring their families life, health and wealth.
Finally, Santa Claus. Who was he?
Based on physical descriptions of him in popular culture, he resembles three Roman pagan gods: Bacchus, Thor and Saturn. They represented wine, adultery and sport.
However, others say Santa represents St. Nicholas. In reality though St. Nicholas, who was a Christian bishop living in Turkey in the fourth century, was not heavyset or overbearing. He was a thin, austere man, who loved children.
These and other examples present Christmas as a truly pagan holiday, with little to nothing to do with Jesus Christ or monotheism (which Christians claim to believe in). These traditions were adapted and adopted by Christians spreading their faith in the northern countries as a way to appease the people while adopting Christianity.
Clearly this has taken its toll by corrupting the original beliefs of Christianity, and degenerating Christmas into an occasion that has little to do with the Jesus who supposedly inspired it.

Lots of opininons....
While saturnalia or other Roman pagan holidays may have helped decide the Dec 25th as a day for Christmas, the meaning of Christmas and its relevance is more important...
Christmas TODAY can be Pagan or Christian...
The sights in New York can be fantastic at Christmas..Most shops make their greatest profit for the entire year during this time...
Is that the meaning of christmas? a time to impress( or oppress) people with costly presents, clothes, parties etc....let the wine flow freely..!
have santa at the party with halfnaked assisstants!
If the above is the meaning of christmas for you, most assuredly it was and is a pagan festival.
But that is decidedly not the meaning of Christmas...
The TRUE meaning of Christmas is that the infinite God was born of a virgin called Mary in a stable in Bethlehem, and laid in a humble manger far from the reverlry of today.
No one who vists a manger can fail to notice its utter misery and smell....
But the King of Kings and Lord of Lords was born there...not in a Palace,,,,
HE forsook all and came for the redemption of Mankind..
later HE died on the cross for the millions who would trust in HIM and on the third day, Resurrected and today lives in every heart that will open to HIM.
The LEAST we can be is to be grateful..
The Jews who rejected HIM know this passage from I Kings, Chapter 9 in the Old Testament of the Bible..
"But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them: 7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:"
While the Temple of Solomon was so Hallowed for the Jews, God said HE would THROW IT OUT if they followed other gods....
Hence today Christmas without JESUS THE CHRIST is meaningless and an offence to God...and completely pagan.
But if it is a rejoicing to remember the blessed fact the about 2000 years ago JESUS THE CHRIST was born for humanity,,,, and if you open your heart to HIM so HE could be born there...you have truly understood its meaning...
God Bless!
Blessed Christmas and New Year.
Shalom.

This may be a shocking thought to some: but . . . I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing Christian about Christmas; that in its present observance, as well as in its origin, Christmas is basically and essentially pagan.
What many in Christendom have been celebrating--Christmas--is a thoroughly pagan holiday--in its origin, in its trappings, and in all its traditions . . . . The modern conservative cry to put Christ back into Christmas is absurd. Jesus Christ was never in Christmas.
Paul wrote to the Galatians in dismay, "Ye observe days, and months, and times, and years! I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labor in vain" (Gal. 4:10-11). He wasn't condemning them for observing those institutions commanded by God, but for observing those of man's making, contrary to God's law.
What could seem more harmless than the beautiful Christmas trees that light our homes during the Christmas season? But do you know why we have trees in our homes? From ancient times trees have played an important role in pagan religion, and were even worshipped. Norsemen, celts, and saxons used trees to ward off witches, evil spirits, and ghosts. In Egypt the palm tree was prominent; in Rome it was the fir. Because of this association, idols were often carefully carved from trees. Jeremiah warned the Old Testament people of God: "Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with hammers, that it move not" (Jer. 10:2-4).

THAKERAY EAT NO CHICKEN !?
The fuhrer of Shiv Sena is direct competitor to Togadia in his rhetoric. He manages to stay in the news with his vitriolic comments and the misadventures of his saffron militia. He is a disenfranchised person with no regrets. He has made a mockery of the Indian judicial system. He has openly admitted that it was his boys who demolished the Babri Masjid. But there are no cases pending against him on this count.
Each time he opens his mouth,he seems to have something controversial.Like his hardcore brethren of the VHP and Bajrangdal his words are in defence of the past glory and anger against the invaders of the past.He prefers to talk less of development and more of 'sentimental' issues.
The fuhrer wants to stay one step ahead of the Togadias and the Singhals. He is marketing himself as the true champion of Hindutva. He is under the impression that spraying cow urine at the Gandhi Samadhi, digging up cricket pitches, destroying shops selling Valentine's day cards and opposing the proposed ferry to Lahore is 'defending Hinduism'.
The VHP's earlier USP was 'ban on cow slaughter'.Not to be undone Bal Thakeray has now demanded a ban on the 'slaughter' of chickens in Mumbai. It is understandable that many people in India consider the cow as a divine animal. But how come that Thakeray has a new evelation that the chicken is of the same status as the cow? May be it is not unusual for people of his age to have such visions or make similar discoveries.Thakeray can of course ,like other Indian politicians, coin a slogan first and invent several reasons to justify it.
The increasing interference of the Hindutva fascists with regard to the personal preferences and dietary habits of the Indian citizens is nauseating and Talibanist. Thakeray and his private army can eat what they want or avoid it .Let it be left to the individuals to decide whether they want to have chicken ,pork ,beef or a bunch of leaves. The moans and growls of those like Thakeray is unbecoming of a democratic and civilized society. They are a bloat on the face of the Indian pluralism and secular democracy.
