I am not too optimistic that the supreme court any better than local courts. We are yet to see a powerful politician punished in accordance to his crime. Karunanidhi got away despite Sarkaria findings. Now JJ gets away. Just that, in a nation full of corrupt, politicians take turn to go scotfree.

Dear Karthik,
Hope you understand the difference between
Enquiry commission report & Court verdict.
There was not any action taken on Sarkaria commission report since it was just a political
vendetta to suppress MK since he was terrifically
fighting against Emergency.
But as far as I know I never heard of a person being punished for corruption in India. The
judges have to take care of the current situation
in the country and they should understand the
need to remove corruption in this country.
Eventhough Dinakar did not punish the accused,
he could have requested for further enquiry into this case. Instead he scre'wed up the public
prosecuters and tried to help JJ & CO out of this
case. But we all know what happened in the past,
and this judgement paves the way to those people to continue to do those things.

Now going by the verdict, I start suspecting the judicial system itself. The whole world knows who Jaya is? But, the court thinks otherwise.

judges are expected to be proactive atleast in cases involving corruption. if they apply the strict rules of evidence and the procedural technicalities, no politician in this country can be brought to justice.
government is of the opinion that acts like poto is necessary to deal with the terrorists, since by ordinary laws it is difficult to prove the cases. the cases involving corruption is no exception.
no ruler will bring such laws, to save their own skin.
a trial judge knows the difficulties of the police to establish the case and they make some relaxations to convict the accused. people sitting in the high court hear only arguments and are easily overawed by the arguments of the super senior advocates.
many high court judges have party affliations, as they are picked out of government pleaders. presently no government appoints a government pleader, who is not sympathetic to its cause. this dinakar too was a govt.pleader for the earlier jeya government and was appointed as a judge during her tenure.(if i am wrong i may be corrected).
tamilnadu people have not forgotten the acquittal of david in navarasu case.
it is all our fate!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is the best consolation an indian can have.

Was to decision left to a single judge - not to a bench - consisting of 3 or 4 judges? Because, if the decision was made by a group of judges, i would have been better convinced about the judgement.
Now, the tamilnadu public look foolish - for this long, they were made to believe ( atleast they believed ) that jayalalitha is corrupt and she is going to get punished. Now for the layman, what the judge says would sound more correct than a politician (read MK) - and this is bad for the state.
