cheap politics by our 'leaders' on cauvery water

I was watching the rally and the fast....so much of mud slinging.
Some treat it as an oppurtunity to enter politics, some see it as an oppurtunity to get the blessings of their leader, some see it as an oppurtunity to settle scores.
Some portions of the crowd dances cheering.. some show 'baba mudra'....some always hover around the TV camera...
On the whole , a "KOOTHU" ..by these "Koothadis" and the idiotic crowd , which never understands the seriousness of the issue....never understands the plight of the farmers..the farmers never organise into a good lobby...
See the kannadigas, the whole kannadiga society is unified, puts up a unified face and uniied stance.Pretends to the outside world as if they are reasonable guys....
a mature kannada Chief Minister... a person who creates an image of patience and maturity...
I cant but feel sad at the state of affairs...is it because , we are yet to mature?
Almost none seem to realise the gravity of the situation..the crowd assembles not to show their support for the Tamilnadu's stand but more for seeing the actresses, actors, to get a glimpse of Rajinikant.....
Bharathiar's maravar pattu comes to my mind.... and the sad words, " man vetti kooli thinnalachey!".....
why this degradation? why this hankering after these actors and actresses who are just jokers???
Endru thirunthum en Tamizh samuthayam?

>> But Tamils in karnataka continue to speak in Tamil.I can show you hundreds(if not thousands) of Tamils in Bangalore city itself who DONT KNOW tamil and who have started learning only recently. <<
It should read DONT KNOW KANNADA.
Generally speaking Kannadigas and Telegus are soft peace-loving people and learn local languages. Many of my friends in TN were Telegus bu I didnt know as they spoke in Tamil only.Same here in bangalore where many friends who I thought Kannadigas were actually Telegus.
Plus Raj Kumar was abducted by a Tamil and freed by the help of another Tamil. So no big deal.Plus there was fear that there will be violence against Tamils if something happens to him.(I am not justifying violence).
Do you really think no water is being released now ???

Harish:
So are Tamilians. ALthough I agree with you that Tamilians not learning Kannada in Bangalore is not appropriate, that does not mean Tamilians never learn local languages. There is some historical reason as to why they dont seem to learn Tamil in Bangalore. Bangalore had historically a huge Tamil population especially around Cantonment, these are not immigrants, but local Tamil people. WHen the linguistic states were created after independence, this area became part of Kannada speaking Karnataka, but the people did not find a reason to learn Kannada. This continues to this day, so there is some reason to this madness of not learning Kannada although I think they should learn the local language.
In any case, you will find that Tamilians living in other part of Karnataka, say for e.g., Belgaum or other places are fluent in Kannada, just as you are fluent in Tamil :)

can you please answer my question in my previous post?

..But do you think is it right to say "cannot give even a drop of water" instead of accept to release some percentage irrespective of the quantity ?
<<
If this is the question then I read in Deccan Herald issue Oct 11 that state has not violated SC order and is releasing 6500 cusecs everyday instead of stipulated 9000 cusecs.
I am finding the online link.If I cant find it ask your friends in Bangalore to check it out (centre fold , right page , left hand corner top article)and may be send it by mail to your home to check it out yourself.

Milton,
Do you really think that karnataka is refusing to give ANY water? the dispute has alwqays been about the amount not the lack of giving water...

Harishkumar,
I agree with you that Tamils in karnataka should respect the local language, kannada culture etc...there are no two opinions about that.
But, blocking a natural river is that right? and you are giving some water to us and claim it as an act of magnanimity.
The river is flowing for thousand of years...even if you are using a passage for 15 years, you cant be denied that right under the existing civil laws.
If, tomorrow some technology is invented to block the clouds and air, will you accept such acts and argue that the 'state ' itself doesnt have enough clouds and air???
The States are our creation, but the river is nature's creation and simply because it originates in a 'created entity ' , you cant deny its natural flow and course which was going on for milleniums.
I agree with your observation that Tamilnadu need to think long term and both Tamilnadu and karnataka have to learn to conserve water and use various methods like the 'check Dams' which consume less money and which doesnt spoil the ecology at the same time doing wonders for the ecology(like in Sourashtra region of gujarat, just in five years 10000 such check dams have been built and just one good rain was enought to improve the water tables and make the otherwise desert like area into a green one!).
What Karnataka is doing is wrong .... but i am not accepting the raise of tempers on this issue. It will not only harm Tamilians in karnataka, but it has the potential to ruin bangalore also. One riot and all the FDI will disappear.
Lets approach this issue in an impartial way and find out what is good for the people and country as a whole and lets try to help farmers on both sides prosper.

Harish,
The minister uttered a 100% lie. I thought you are going to give some statistics. If this is a proof, I can give you more similar proof on behalf of you.
Krishna disregarded Court order publicly and went to "Padayatra". He says I always have high respect on Judiciarya nd we did not diobey Court orders. Is he a liar or he thinks rest of the people are fools?
Many Kanada films have theme against Tamils regd. Cauvery issue and actors (Espicially Sons of Idol Rajkumar)
Seeing this things, I have a feeling(I am wrong I am sure). Politicialns in Kannada and film stars cannot be handled by Ethics and law only by outlaws like Veerappan. No wonder Veerappan receives so much support from public for his abductions.
On the other hand, I would like to support SM Krishna who is personanly handicapped. The opposition and farmers say "Disobey court, we will be with you.". Will they accept Contempt proceedings on behalf of Krishna? Can they give CM post to Krishna if he loses his post because of Contempt? Krishna is 1000 times better than Bangarappa who provoked violence.
Rajkumar's family will keep cashing this issue. I pity Cine fans of Kannada. There hasn't been any Tamil film whose theme is cauvery.

It is to the discredit of Karnataka's politicians that they have made Cauvery as big an issue as Pakisthan at a national level. There is something seriously wrong with both politicians and the intellegensia as regards the state's relations with its neighbours. Belgaum burnt long after the disputes over Chennai and Mumbai had died down and is still simmering. They are still bickering with AP on Almatti. The latest addition is the fracas with Goa over the Mandovi.
As regards Tamils learning the local language, it is true that first generation white collared Tamils in major cosmopolitan cities do not usually make as much efforts to pick up the local language as they do to forming their Tamil networks. It is not just Kannada in Bangalore. The same is true of Punjabis and Sindhis too.

Karnataka wants to keep water for pottable purposes and cultivation for the whole of 2003 in its resorvoirs before letting out any water. This is preposterous. International rules in water sharing by riparian nations has to be applied to all inter-state water sharing within India. That is the only solution.

I read from indiainfo.com. I have no knowledge about names.
But everybody knows it was the Rajkumar fans association that did most of infamous riots in 1991.
In TN there is no attack (Practically) on Kannadikas and their buses and films(!!). Why such thing in Karnataka itself? It is a shame.
Can they accept the Supreme court opinion that Karnataka govt and its people are most selfish?
