Now try this,
Imagine you are walking with your Boy/Girl friend in a park. The path is strewn with black and white pebbles. In the park you come across a friend to whom you owe a lot of money. He confronts you and you express your inability to repay. Now, he makes a suggestion, he says he will pick 2 pebbles (one white, one black) and says that your friend has to pick up one pebble. If he/she picks a white pebble, he will write off the loan, but, if he/she picks up a black peeble, he will take your friend and you will have to pay double the loan amount. So, he picks to 2 pebbles, but, while picking, he cunningly picks up 2 black pebbles, which your friend sees, but is unable to say or do anything. Your friend picks up one pebble, but, still saves you from embarrasment. How did your friend save you?

Kumar,
According to the question, the person has cheated me and my friend is unable to say it.
Well then, after being asked by the person who loaned me money,my friend would choose one of the hands but would ask him to show the other hand.By that we would come to know it's black.According to the suggestion, the other pebble we have chosen should be white. So by asking to show the hand not chosen than the one chosen,my friend could possibly save me from embarassment. Is it correct ?

Sridhar,
You are almost right, but, since he has to pick only one pebble. All that ur friend does is to drop the pebble he picks (makes it appear as an accident) and since the path is strewn with both the colour pebbles and since the other pebble in the bag is black, it is assumed that he picked the white pebble

In a village there lived two friends Ram and Shyam.Ram always spoke the truth and Shyam always lied. You come to the village to visit a temple. You encounter Ram and Shyam at the bifurcation of two roads of which one leads to the temple. You know the fact that these are two friends of whom, one always speaks truth and the other false, however you don't know which one of them speaks truth/false.You must ask ONLY ONE question to either one of them.Which would that one question be which if you ask either Ram or Shyam irrespective, will lead you to the temple ?

Sridhar,
I will do like this:
I'll walk ahead onto one road a short distance and return to the junction. Then I'll ask either of them, "which are the roads that will NOT lead me temple?"
If Ram answers me he will say that both roads don't lead me to temple if the road I have returned is the road to temple.
If Shyam answers, he will say both the roads lead to temple.
If it is the road not taken is the road leading to temple then, Shyam will say that the road not taken will not lead me to temple whereas ram will say the road I came by in the first place will not lead me to temple. So I'll know the road and who among them lies.

Hi Siby,
" If Ram answers me he will say that both roads don't lead me to temple if the road I have returned is the road to temple."
Ram cannot answer like this since the temple is there in one of the roads and also ram always speaks the truth.

You can ask
What your friend would say if I ask "which road will not lead to temple"?
Direction he shows is the right one to go to the temple.

Sridhar,
>>" If Ram answers me he will say that both roads don't lead me to temple if the road I have returned is the road to temple."
Ram cannot answer like this since the temple is there in one of the roads and also ram always
Remeber I'm returning from one of the 2 possible roads (after going a short distance) and I'm asking which are the roads the roads that will not lead to Temple. If both the roads, ie the road I came in the first place to the village and the other possible one will not lead me to temple, Ram will say both will not lead me to temple. He will say so since he speaks only truth. Now if the possible road leads to temple, Ram will say that the road I came in the first place to the village will not lead me to temple.
In the case of Shyam, he'll say both roads will lead to temple if the possible road will not lead to temple (remeber I'm returning from one of the 2 possible roads after a short distance).
If the possible road leads to temple, Shyam will say that it will not lead to the temple. I know pretty sure the road I came by in the first place to the village will not lead me temple.
I'll get the road to temple by using this method.

Siby,
There is a simple solution.I could not follow yours.
First, if you ask Ram to ask Shyam the way to the temple, shyam would tell the wrong answer as he always lies. This would be said by Ram to you.So you have to take the other route.
Second,if you ask Shyam to ask Ram the way to the temple,Ram would tell the correct answer. But Shyam would not tell the correct answer to you as he always lies.So in this case too,you have to take the other route.
So, the question to Ram and Shyam would be -"Will you ask your friend the way to the temple?"

Sridhar,
>>There is a simple solution.I could not follow yours.
You should just visualise the scene. The road splitting into 2 and you take one road and come back to ask. Before you there are only 2 roads, the road you came by to the village in the 1st place and one of the 2 possible roads.
Moreover, you will get the road to temple even if Ram & Shyam don't know each other also by using the method I suggested.
I think if I ask your question,"Will you ask your friend the way to the temple?", I'll get an answer like "Yes" or "No", which is not sufficient to know which road leads to the temple. You'll know which one is lying, and you'll have to ask a 2nd question to find the way to temple.

can anyone prove this
VI = 1
by drawing only one line..

Siby,
The question to Ram Or Shyam would be "What would your friend say if i ask him the way to the temple".I should have framed the question like that.Your answer (without both knowing) is correct.
C'mon this one is over.Guys, come up with some other puzzles
