How do you car wax? How do you buff? How do you avoid the wax affecting the windshield, rubber parts and jambs?

Karthik: The best method to clean the hood is to replace the hood. The best method to replace the hood is to get a new car:-)
BTW, men treat car washing/cleaning just like they clean their own bodies - clean the parts that are most easily accessible rather than the ones which NEED cleaning. Men have the cleanest tummies (due to constant circular cleaning with soap) and the dirtiest gaps between the toes:-)

Hi MV,

What kind of detergent did they suggest?
The best in the business I am told is Maguire's Gold Car Wash .
MV, Everything considered, I am going to a professional who does this for 60 bucks in my area. I think it is worth it. Hope to recover this money when I sell the car. FYI, my car is a 2000 Accord.
Ravi Sundaram:
This is my 4th car and 2nd first hand car. Ravi, your opposition for a simple thing as waxing is more of a mental block. For 60 bucks or 1-2 hours work, you can protect your car exterior. Don't you change oil for 15-30 bucks. Ask yourself why you do this? The same answer applies to your car exterior. This is not a cosmetic excercise to boost my vanity. The protection aspect of it lets you sleep at ease.

I am not opposed to waxing cars. All I am saying is in the larger context of life, you dont have to do it. If you have this much enthusiasm to wax your fourth car, I dont know what to say. Either you are a big car enthusiast or rest of your life is very dull :-) (just kidding, dont take it seriously tamilan. :-))
All I can say is:
My car is dirty.
My hard disk has not been defragged even once.
Everytime they buy me a new machine at work I copy the entire hard disk of the previous machine instead of throwing away useless files.
I save ALL my emails instead of throwing away,
mails like "Pizza for everyone at 12 Noon today"
When I bought my home the previous owner gave me
tins of left over paint to do touch up jobs on window sills and soffits and facias. I still dont
know the difference between a soffit and a facia.
My driveway is concrete and in the tiny gaps small plants are growing. I have a gallon of Round Up sitting in my garage. I still have sprayed them.
My guest bathroom flush, flushes itself once in a while and sometimes does not close properly and wastes water all night. All it takes is a good squirt of WD40 at the handle. The can of WD40 is under the sink of the master bathroom. I still have not done it. My wife has done everything short of threatening divorce, and I still have not done it. Equality of Women. Let her squirt WD40 on it.
BTW all you need to maintain a home is a roll of duct tape and a can of WD40. If it moves, but should not use the tape. If it doesnt, but it should use the can. Home maintenance for dummies.
But I sleep at ease. Very much at ease.
And of all the things that wake me up with cold sweat in the middle of the night, my car exterior is the last one.

Ravi,
When I was driving my old cars I did not even bother to lock them. I have never even washed my old cars once. I was happy about my cars and myself . Then I was a bachelor.
In 97 I got married, things changed. The old cars and buying used cars "thinking process" were purged from my consious. In late 99 bought my first new car. Later in 2000, thanks to the then bull economy bought my 2nd new car.
Today, with the down swing in the market all my new cars are burdens. I may have to sell it. That's why I am forced to do these maintenances.
And Yes I am H1B indentured.

Ah! that explains a lot. Yes to sell a car, the first impression counts a lot. Wax them. Get the carpets shampooed. There are places where they steam clean the engine and under the hood. Get it done and spray a little oil to make it gleaming.
Clean windows with windex. Do anything to sell a car.
Hang in there, the economy will turn around. Better times are ahead and you will buy a better car a lot sooner than you think. Best of luck Man.

Wax your car? Wash your car? What is wrong with you people? What do you think God created rain for?
This is a funny thread. Thanks for the laughs.

I am out of here. No more waxing, waning, polishing and buffing.
Ear wax sounds more interesting.
By the way, does RajaG use a shovel or garden hose to clear the ear wax? Does he also make candles out of his ear wax?

I always remember this one adage:
Always keep plastic bags in your car. Because they are good for the enviroment and whenever they fill up you can just chuck them out the window. SM
