To become a Vegetarian or not?

Friends,
I have this confusion for a longtime. Should I become a Vegetarian or not? I have abstained from non-vegetarian food for atleast 11 times in my life. But find the non-veg food to be tasty and enriching , energising.
But some friends say that i should become a vegetarian on ethical, moral, religious, health and many other grounds.
When I see friends like Raghu proudly declaring that they have turned Vegetarian or when Sweetie says that vegetable biriyani is tastier than mutton biriyani, i am also tempted to leave my non-vegginess behind as a old page in my life book.
What do u think? Please post with facts and your personal experiances.

what priyamudan and I are trying to say here is, In general cows are treated well than hen. I live in USA and I am pretty sure that cows are treated well till they get milk and of course they kill them for meat. But till killing them they are treated definitely better than hens.Even in India cows are comparatively treated better than hen. Moreover according to Hinduism cow is called mother of the society so it is cow's responsibility to give us the milk. So cow's milk is considered to be sacred and it is recommended for us to take the milk. It is there in Geeta also and egg is not definitely under that category. So even Gandhiji had taken the milk and not the egg.Gandhiji has in fact given the explanation for that also. So it is highly unjustifiable to compare egg with milk. I am telling you this because you are very reasonable person when it comes to moral values.

I have seen a few farms both poultry and cows, in both case they are illtreated (not to mention torturing experimental animals in the name of science). Cows live their lives in a closed room and just become milking machines. They are given artificial insemination and live a life of being just a wood piece not knowing the touch of a bull. These farm cows are not allowed to lick their calfs and so the calf are pulled out of force. Licking develops a bonding between the cow and the calf and so the cow will give milk only on condition. All these are cruelties inflicted on these poor animals.
I have mentioned else where in the thread that I use and advocate using organic milk and eggs from freely roaming cows and hens. Also use not animla tested detergents (also eco friendly detergents)
cosmetics and recyclable materials.
In a farm in our town, the guy (an american) follows all Indian ways of farming . He calls them vedic cows. They are freely roaming and are fed only grass (not sprayed with pesticides)and in winter given organically grown barley. while milking he plays gandharva music. cows are rarely ill and if they are ill he never gives antibiotics but gives "reiki".
There is no atificial insemination. there is one bull which does the work. This farmer claims that I dont own the cows but the bull does. The bull can be seen proudly walking among the cows and his powers are not taken away. Most of the bulls are wild because they are not given their responsisbilites. This bull in the farm is cool headed and proud to be the head of his clan.
The milk from these cows are like "amrit" not only nutritously but also emotionally. we know from humans that a kid would be sick if the mother is emotioanlly disturbed because her steroidal hormones levels would be high. This same applies to cows also. what people drink now is milk rich in hormones and pesticides and more over with no love , but only hatred.
Go organic if you value lives of not only humans but also other living beings in this planet.
(sorry if I repeated the message).

Go vegetarian. It will be the best decision you made in your entire life I promise. Apart from the philosophy of compassion towards animals, you will reap the benefits of better health and energy. The human digestive tract is not equipped to digest meat like carnivores like tigers, etc. Try my one week challenge. You won't go back!

FYI - The mmc who started this thread is the "original" mmc and doesn't seem to be around in FH these days. He is not the same as the porno poster mmc whom you are talking about.

Cows are indeed sacred. I recall studying in school how a vaccination for small pox was developed only based on a knowledge of cow pox. Not only cows, but many other animals have saved millions of human lives, albeit the indirect contributions they have made to science.
