You know folks, Bobby Fischer certainly mystifies me. The story of his rise to chess superstardom is certainly an amazing one, the way in which he defeated the might of the (then) Soviet Chess juggernaut being the stuff of legend. It is said that the key to his success, apart from his incredible memory and extraordinary IQ was his dedication to the game. I do find it inspirational. Yet, I also have to say that I find the other aspects of his persona quite disgusting. He is a paranoid racist, and I find I am not comfortable with drawing inspiration from such a character. What do you guys think? Is it acceptable to idolise him?

  Bascially, I am trying to decide whether or not to buy a chess book that contains analyses of a few of his games, besides that of several others. In actual fact, I think I am going to buy the book whatever you guys say, but I'd like to know what you think.

  I kinda understand where your coming from.Alot of the information contained today is false(in accordance to bobby of course).There are alot of miss quotes and so on.But as to your question! Would it be morally right to idolise Bobby Fisher?As i see it, your not idolizing the player himself,your idolizing his way of play and the steps he took to be the best.His character has nothing to do with it.Please email me and tell me what you think.
