Is it morally wrong to write erotica?

Is it morally wrong to write erotica? I mean, I want to keep my virginity until marriage, and I don't want to watch pornographic films, but I would enjoy writing erotic (and I must stress: erotic, not pornographic, as there is a difference between the two) literature. Would it be wrong to write that kind of literature and publish it on the internet?

Through history, pornography as well erotica have always had literary and intellectual sanction. It has been regarded as 'art' by many. Royalty to gentry to the common man have indulged in a bit of this 'therapy' from time to time in almost cultures. Contrary to common belief, erotica and pornograghy have been used to enrich ones imagination and subsequently the quality of ones sex life.
The 20th however gave rise to a a more degerate form of pornography potraying sadism, masochism, child pornography and so on. With the coming of the net the disastrous effects of this easy access to hardcore porn has not just corrupted the minds of children who but has also quenched the thirst of perverts.
So which form of pornography/erotica you intend to write should be the question. Personally I dont think writing erotica is wrong. One needs to have a rich imagination to write good erotica. If it is tatsefully written, you could also probably post it here for others to enjoy. LOL

It is Ok not only to write erotica but also pornographic stories if you want. There is nothing wrong in publishing them either. Seeing X rated films, peeping etc too are Ok provided they don't degenerate into a trespass to the the body or mind of a person. It is perfectly Ok to enjoy the beauty created by the God....of everything. Obstructing them is the real perversion.... It is against the laws of nature. The society has made many stupid laws in the past, mostly by vested interest groups, which don't have much relevance now. Your life is your's ...and you can live it in its fullness and you have the right to do it without any guilt feeling....provided always....it does'nt hurt the other person's body or feelings. Best of lucks for a great enjoyable writing career...!!

I think you should post a passage of what you wish to write in your thread, And also state what you think is the difference.
Pornography is decribed as indecent literature and erotica is decribed as sexual literature.
Sex is an Indecent word in some societies. Where do you draw the line between what people perceive as indecent and sexual. What i might think is erotic could be indecent to someone else so you could still get negative responses no matter what you write.
As mentioned by shitkicker before, "if written tastefully" You could do well.
Lets face it, most indian movies have so much of erotic stuff in these days, it is just disguised in a sari and a lot of singing and dancing in the trees, Try watching one of these dance scenes where the actors run around trees with the sound off and you could get a few pages for your first novel.

If you mean that porn featuring sadism etc. is a 20th century phenomenon, I am not sure I agree with you. There's tons of 18th and 19th century stuff that qualifies.
Also, rather than "quench" tastes, the net seems to have them grow. I mean, the dot-coms that make money are in this sector, yes? =)

Fridge,
With reference to your post i was emphasising to 'Confused' that he should seriously consider what you have said. The last the elements were 'smilies' as used in chat.
Sundar the Apostate,
By mentioning the 20th century, I was generally to more recent times in the history of porn. Like you mentioned I agree with you that the 18th and 19th century also had a lot of stuff with the likes of Marquis de Sade and so on. But the 20th century with the advances in photography and printing technology and now ofcourse the net, has made it all the more 'demonic'.

Let me start by saying that I am definitely not going to publish any erotica on Forum Hub.
Hey "S h i t k i c k e r" (and others), I have to say that although I don't like your name, it's good to see that there's someone who thinks the same as I do. However, let's argue things out a bit further.
I feel that the difference between pornography and erotica is this: pornography is a highly crude, unpolished way of arousing sexual desires and it usually works only to arouse men, whereas erotica is a more artistic and beautiful way of portraying sexual love, sexual activities, sexual intercourse, etc. The emotional side of sex is not ignored, whereas it is ignored in pornographic work. It can arouse both men and women.
I feel that pornographic films are in a way, almost like prostitution, because they essentially consist of men and women engaging in sexual acts for a price. But I can't claim to be an angel myself: I have visited a few pornographic websites in the past (but I must also mention that, despite being a man, I have almost never enjoyed pornography - whereas I almost always enjoy erotica).
I feel that written erotica is okay because it usually just involves a writer writing about his or her sexual fantasies. Also, think about the Kamasutra (by the way, if you haven't read the Kamasutra, visit www.bibliomania.com, and look under non-fiction, and look for Vatsyayana.
The other side of this argument is this: I am twenty years old, but to a great extent, I am still very much under the control of my parents. Apart from this enjoyment of erotica, I have no habits that my parents would disapprove of, such as drinking, drugs or smoking. As I have already mentioned, I will definitely keep my virginity (and my lack of extensive knowledge of sex) until marriage. I am quite respected as a nice guy among my friends and everyone else who knows me. All this makes me feel guilty in a way, because I feel like a sinner masquerading as a saint, i.e., I feel like I am hiding an evil, dark and dirty side of my personality from those who love and respect me the most. And yet, when I think about it, it's quite obvious to me that everyone will know that just like the average human being, I too, have sexual desires. What would you guys do if you were in my position?
And one little request: when I launch my website (if I do), if you guys visit it and are disappointed (which I'm fairly sure you will be), please don't just leave in disgust, give me your suggestions as to how you think I can improve the erotica.

Okay, I've put up a piece of my work at The" target="_top">http://www.geocities.com/kvatsyayana">The Khajuraho Project. My own opinion is that although I made a serious effort, the end result has turned out to be pathetic.

Can we reopen this debate?
Would God be in favour of this or not? I feel that I have been punished. My mother is now suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, I feel that is God's punishment because I broke a promise I that I am not sure I even made in the first place. That is to say, I think - and I stress, I THINK - I don't know for sure whether I made such a promise or not - I might have made a promise to God that I would never write erotica, and I think - again I THINK I swore it by my mother's life - but I broke that promise, and I feel that God has (very unjustly) punished my mother for this. I know these concepts may seem strange to those who are not religious - it seems strange even to me sometimes. But now I'd like to write erotica again, and I'm not sure what I should do.
