Now my definition of the homely Indian girl is the girl who stays home and cooks for her family, sits and talks aunty stories and never goes out to dances, pubs or sometimes even movies. These are the girls who never discusses boys at home and would one day marry a nice rich boy that their father's would approve of. Well that is what I thought. I am a liberal woman who leads a liberal lifestyle, i think my thoughts are pretty liberal too and I could never see myself in the same bracket as a Homely Indian Girl
Over the last 6 months I met with 3 such homely girls , so I decided to do the nice indian girly things and stand around the stove and watch them cook, and asking inappropriate stuff like "so do you have a boyfriend" of course the answer was "oh no, my family would kill me"
these girls are a huge benefit to have around, as you can save on salon costs, they are excellent at painting nails, shaping brows and putting mendhi in your hair and they can cook very well,
It took a lot of struggle to get one of them to a coffee shop, she was terrified her father would be upset, My mother was present and encouraged her to go to the coffee shop, we had cheesecake and tea, is that a sin?, We were chatting and it was good to catch up with family that I had not seen in many years.
As time went on I discovered that all 3 of these homely girls have fallen pregnant and had abortions previously, These girls do not speak much at all, they appear very shy in male company. Being an older relative to two of them I felt so hurt that they had to go through such trauma, yet they seem okay. they are beyond okay they can now steal each others boyfriends as well.
Am I stupid to think that Good Indian girls do not do such stuff, or has the Indian community gone mad.
HOW DID THE HOMELY GIRLS MANAGE TO HAVE SEX?

Fresh
Single woman with babies is not the ideal situation, and I am sure not a happenning thing in India, but some woman choose this way, some woman honestly have problems with relationships(husband wife type), although a marriage can be an excellent institution, it can be very hard work for some people. Having a baby on the other hand could be something they can handle and they would rather choose this.
"Most girls in India (and I think even in some Western families) are still brot up and made to believe that the 'ultimate' purpose of a woman's life is to get married, please her husband and bear his children. I do think that being a mother is possibly the most important job that one could do - BUT, is it the mainstay of a woman's life? - SURELY NOT! "
Maybe it is, maybe India has done things right all the time. Woman are these days getting in touch with their femm side to find their identity and finding ways in which to best find a balance. Woman leaders today are doing well because we are moving towards the coach/type, empathetic/leader, getting to know your staff, Building people and skills era. Who better for empathy and the softer approach than a woman, yes the maternal side of woman is being used in the workforce.
I am not too sure about taking care of a husband but I do believe raising kids comes easier to us than to men.
Air show in Pretoria on the weekend, enjoy

This is just an FYI post.
I know some people in this post are very particular about things as trivial as the spelling and punctuation for the word 'JOB'. Please pardon me in advance for any such mistakes that I might make.
This was from a previous post in this thread and I quote -
"
....
Not only that, I have seen... in a wending machine in UT-austin LIBRARY (PCL)CONDOMS being sold too.
...
"
I don't know if they are still doing it or not, but when I was in Coimbatore between 1994-1998, they had condom vending machines, which dispose condoms for free in Gandhipuram Central Bus Station and in other places. A couple of good friends of mine who work for AIDS awareness in TN explained me the significance. They say the Truck(lorry) drivers are one uncontrollable bunch who won't listen or respond to any sort of advice or warning about AIDS.
In their words, "AIDS and undesired pregnancies are catching up at an alarming rate in TN despite our culture.". According to their statistics, on an average, there'll be one AIDS victim in every bus we travel in TN by the year 2010.
My point is, IMHO, educating teens in a responsible manner about Sex need not be a taboo. Come on people, soft-core porn is already into mainstream cinema and TV, and its high time the children(after respective age) know about sexual responsiblity before they start following wrong examples.
And this 'culture' thing is kind of a vague, fuzzy, abstract term no one can define. It is purely subjective. W.r.t our discussion, what culture do those truck drivers belong to ?
Take a look at another related statistic in this thread:
