"A Soul Mate not necessarily needs to be of the opposite sex ... when someone lives a life of romantic fairytales that's when they want and rather have the person of the opposite sex as THE soulmate ... But believe me, there is absolute joy too when the soulmate can be of the same sex..." - Truly Exotic
Well and truly said.
A soul mate of the same sex can be described as a 'BOSOM FRIEND', with whom one feels fully comfortable, enjoys full compatibility & support and derives high mental satisfaction/enrichment.
For youngsters on the threshold of marriage, soul mate has the meaning and implications which we have discussed above.
Soulmate is the person we find as the most 'soul satisfying'!

Why do u need to seek for compatibility in everything? It is probably the little skirmishes arising out of differences, that makes living so interesting. I think the idea of a soul mate is nice as far as ideals go, but realistically speaking one don't need a soul mate.

We come to this world alone... we go alone.. so where does "soulmate" fit in??
even if it does, after the "karmic cycle" dont we all.. say like.. as quoted in the Gita, the human bodies are like clothes which will be changed in every human life of the soul. then what use is a soulmate...just to travel 1 human life?
Now considering that all this is true, then isnt the arranged marriage thing a false one... I mean what do you do if u r married to some gal.. and you feel that ur neighbour's gal is ur "soulmate"??
well..so that answers Ellen... looks like the whole soulmate thing is man's imagination.. a feeling that has come to combat his loneliness!??

Soulmate is a western (British) concept. Hindu religion does not talk anything about it.
Generally for young boys and girls, on the lookout for a life-mate, a soul mate is the person of the opposite sex MOST IDEALLY SUITED.
A soulmate, if found, automatically becomes the life mate.
(However all lifemates are not soul mates.)
After marriage, the search for the soulmate ends.
