i want to find the english equivalent of the fishes consumed in tamilnadu like chanda, vanjaram, vavvaal meen, shankara, koduva etc.

I dont know about the other fishes but Vanjiram is called King Mackerel and is found in the seas near Miami, Florida.

chinna kaelenga is known as lady fish in the uk
vanjiram is king fish
and shankara is red mullet

vavvaal meen is pomfret.There is a picture of it in this site http://www.foodexpress.co.ae/seafood.htm.
