What is correct ?

pavazham or pavaLam ?

  the vessel used in my grandfather's place in KK Dt. for boiling "nel" used to be called "Kuttuvam" and it was made of copper, it was differently shaped than the U shaped andaa. Kuttuvam is a curvy thing, very artistic looking :) just liek the sembu equivalent (dont know its name) in KK as well. wow! I love the smell of puzhungum Nel :)

  kuttuvam and the kk dt. sembu equivalent are differently shaped, but both look artistic :)

  Someone Knows, "OOdu" "OOTTU"
  Its very large curved Pan, used to fry the Grinded Rice. Grinding will be done using Ulakkai.
  
  The grinded rice without or with little frying is used for Idiyaappam, and after frying is used for "Puttu" and "Kolukkattai"(We call it as Thakkidi-May be some other Language).

  In KK there is a thing called uruLi which is like a thick vessel for frying mavu. it is shapped somewhat like the kuttuvam but is very wide adn about 6" high, i htink it is made of brass.

  uruLi is generally made of bronze not brass. I have seen bigger uruLies used in temple kitchens in Kerala. About 2 meters in diameter and about 60 cm high. It is transported from the kitchen to the cleaning-area by inserting a thick bamboo pole thru both the handles and carrying it by 6 men!

  Guys, thanks for the response. I got this "pavazham" confusion after seeing the Ananda Vikatan "pavazha vizha malar".
  
  About uruLi:

  'Pavazham' and 'Pavalam' both are in use in Tamil.
  Malayalees called it as 'Pavizham'.
