Just very curious, because India itself has so many dialects and then in the western world, especially Europe, many people speak other European language, besides English... I've noticed all of us are from U.S., India, U.S., and others.
Which language, besides English, are very essential, IYO?

When you learn a new language, is it more difficult as adults than as children? That popped to my mind as I read that some of you are learning Japanese...
I read that language center in the brain for native tongue and for acquired are in different locs.

wow! Hemant! so many languages! must be nice. I know there was some study about the similar sentence formations between Japanese and Tamil. What are your thoughts on that given that you are fluent in both?

Sorry, I had missed this thread.
Japanese has many things in common with Gujarat.
Like relationship indicators.
They use NO for FOR just as in Gujarati.
Usage of questioning KA is almost same as Tamil.
Irukka ?
In Tamil , is Desu ka? in Japanese.
Like this there are many more similarities. But most remarkable thing I found was the house construction of old Japanese style and Tamil style is so similar.
Usage of Tatami (Pai) and wooden spoons, utensils of wood is same as southern Indian style.
God is SAMA in Japanese. In Tamil it is SAMI (SWAMI).
It is unfortunate that I have lost touch with Japan since 1994 .But I try and keep myself abreast of things happening there.
