Gentlemen,
Tamil Director (?!) S.A.Chandra Shekar's latest
movie in Tamil "Dosth" starring Sarath,Raguvaran,Prakash Raj and Abirami is copied from the basic story line of "Double Jeopardy" by Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd.
The copier S.A Chandra made some changes
to fit for Tamil "ILLITERATE" audiances and
to show them that he directed a thriller.
Creativity is not there at all in the Tamil
film world.

Siby,
Thanks. Yes, even I have long since desired to see Iranian movies as I too keep reading some rave reviews on them whenever International Film festivals happen. Whenever some hubbers here think of Islamic nations as 'Afghanistan-like' I really wish they all could get to see some Iranian films to see how liberalism and modernism are appreciated by other Islamic nations. Iran, especially under the stewardship of the current president will steer to success and celebration, I hope. Anyway, that's besides the point.
The advent of directors like Dev Benegal, Pamela Rooks, Nagesh Kukunoor did spring up hopes on a genre of unorthodox non-formula films. However, they all concentrate on English speaking audience. There are very few directors like Mani Ratnam, Priyadarshan, Ram Gopal Verma, Shankar who have the imagination and the ability to come above the ordinary.
Your themes were really good. Wish someone makes a film on 'Paradeep disaster' a la 'Volcano' or 'Dante's peak'. Wishful thinking indeed !
Keep sharing more themes, I wish some prospective director is looking into them.
Shankar.T: I agree with almost all your recommendations except that there should be no overt discrimination against people from other regions acting in Tamil films. Rather, the directors should be unbaised and provide opportunities to local more Tamil looking women. If the audience is not mature, directors do have the ability to render them mature.

Shankar,
>>Titanic and Pearl Harbour are not Love Stories.
I just made a random selection which will be easily known to all. Nevertheless, I should say the Love theme is not cast aside in those movies. I agree the movie exploits a historical tragedy ( of human thinking and its consequent faults); the main theme that runs through the film is that. But I can also tell you some Indian (read Malayalam)movies in which Love theme is wonderfully utilised; and I reiterate Love is a perennial theme, a deep goldmine. Now I don't know if you have in mind this idea: college/street romancing, playing hide and seek games, and stupidities like that.
>>But what is happening in Tamil Movies? Right from the beginning of the film hero starts the planning to love heroine and his friends will always be there to help.
hahaha In majority of the Indian movies, love is designed (in malayalam we say,"njekki pazhuppikkuka); love does not happen.
>>Regarding songs..what you referred must be a.....
I referred to songs in those films I quoted, where the songs are not patched up rags to the fabric of the film but just natural corollary to the flow of events in the cinema. Bharatam and Sargam are stories about musicians or their families. SO also in Desadanam and Kaliyattam; those songs should be there; they are part of the events.
>> Have you not fed up with the song scenes in which Hero/heroine and 50 otherpeople dancing together like a mela always?
That's what I referred to as utter crap. I would rather be incarcerated for 10 folds of the song's duration than watching it:-).
yes, actors/actresses should not dictate terms.
Srini,
Watch out for Malayalam film director Jayaraj's films. Those films are not part of the parallel cinema but enjoyable, yet poignant. I suggest, Karunam, Desadanam, Kaliyattam, Shantam, etc.
And Malayalam still produces good movies which are popular among the Malayali audiences.
For improving appreciatory skills of the audiences, show school children good movies.

Siby,
I suggest few Love storeis/Family oriented movies
(ofcourse from Hollywood). You please watch and tell me whether we (I refer the film world) are able to make such movies with the beautiful stories as the backbones/base.
When we compare Hollywood to our indigeneous movies, immediately people argue that Hollywood's
dimension is wide. But the movies I referred was all simple budgetted movies.
1. Message in a bottle by Kevin Costner, Paul Newman and Robin Wright Penn
2. Meet the Parents by Robert de Niro and Ben Stiller
3. The Story Of Us by Bruce Willis and Michelle Peiffer
4. Some thing about Mary by Ben Stiller,Camaron Diaz
5. A walk in the clouds by Keanu Reeves,Anthony Quinn
These movies are all based on beautiful stories
and the actors fit into the charectors so nicely.
Watch these movies (If u haven't so far) and Enjoy.
Regarding Malayalam movies I accept that they make movies with reality.Few movies I enjoyed are,
1. Godfather by Mukesh,Kanaga
2. Hitler by Mammooty,Shobana,Mukesh,Vani
Viswanath
3. King by Mammooty,Vani Viswanath
4. Friends by Mukesh and Jayaram
I liked "No20 Madras Mail" but HariKrishnas was not up to the mark...

Shankar,
Watching all the movies you suggested will be really taxing. Perhaps I can think of them later when my purse is thick enough:-)
