In an interview, I saw a younger generation female writer's question to a senior male writer on this subject. The senior writer says that a good male-female friendship is impossible in our society. Can we discuss this.

  Anyhow, I don't agree that the only reason a girl and a guy meet is to have sex. However I do agree that the present mindset in India will not look at the relationship between a girl and a guy in relation to anything but sex...sad but true. It is changing in certain pockets in cities, especially in academic circles. Personally, I have had some great friendships with women, in one case where it got physical, the friendship just fell apart and we broke up pretty badly. But I guess that was more because of a personal trait. What I am saying is that a male-female relationship can work on the very same lines as a heterosexual male-male or female-female relationship. In fact I think the sharing of different viewpoints can enrich both parties a lot more.
