Are Indians matured enough to shed the territorial names based on language and ethinicity ?

The British have successfully divided India based on language. When are we going to shed this colonial heretage? Naming Bombay as Mumbai, Calcutta as Kolkatta or Madras as Chennai does only aggravate the situation. In some states, the caste names have been removed from street names. When will names such as Tamil Nadu, Andra, Karnataka, Gujarat etc be replaced by more "Indian" rather than ethnic names ? Are Indians ready for it?

The British did not divide this country on language lines. They did however divide this country on caster and communal lines.
Division of the country on language lines was the brainchild of our country's first prime minister. One more historic blunder like so many others that the country made during the birth and growing years of our nation. I dont think any right thinking progressive individual will have any reservations about removing language and others barriers that are a hindrance to our unity. It is the scheming, self centric politicians and their ilk who will stand to lose the most. They will oppose any attempt towards equality and progress, and will viloently safeguard their fiefdoms from 'reformers' so that they can continue to exploit and milk this nation to death.

'They did however divide this country on caster and communal lines.'- Should be read as:
They did however add towards dividing this country on caste and communal lines.

After all are said and done, let us go back to the
question: Why should not we have territories based
on languages and ethnicity? I am not supporting the argument that territories should be drawn on the basis of language and ethnicity. But why should not we? The problem is not in dividing them up so, the problem comes when there is intolerance between people belonging, a wrong sense of "belonging", instead of belonging to the whole nation. If you open up a computer system you can see each chip properly placed in its territory. Every one of them are inevitable for the system's working. What would happen if each thinks its own importance and do not co-operate with the other chips? The problem is ego, not territories..

The problem is political opportunism that is afforded by such divisions (linguistic) such that every parochial means becomes a powerful tool in further subdividing the masses along various lines for 'Vote Bank' wolves.

Whatever happened to the kshatriya castes in India.
Aren't they not supposed to fight for injustice?
If they have lost their fighting power, then why still hold their title ?

Maran,
It is not only the duty of kshatriyas to fight this issue. It is for every citizen of the country. Why do you bring Kshatriyas into your mudslinging as if you havent done enough with other castes already? What do you mean by 'Holding the Title'? That is his family name. Why should he give it up just because some idiot who can never find peace or satisfaction in anything thinks it should go? Will you agree to change your name because someone thinks MARAN sounds so much like 'MORON'? Its your choice. Not only that, you proud becauuse it so well reflects what it sounds like.
People like you will find any stupid reason to blame this caste or that. One thing is for sure, whatever your pedigree, it sure stinks.

"What do you mean by 'Holding the Title'? That is his family name."
maran - People like SHITLICKERS must go and look at their own history to see why the "family names" were given in the first place.
" People like you will find any stupid reason to blame this caste or that. One thing is for sure, whatever your pedigree, it sure stinks. "
maran - I can see which pedigree this SHITLICKER is from based on his use of language.
Thank God for not belonging to his caste.
