Dear Fridge,
Tolkapiyam is the oldest surviving grammar book on Tamil langauge probably 2,000 years ago.
Praksah wants to know who discovered its original manuscript and where is it kept now (like a Museum)
It probably is written on Palm leaf paper :-)))
Tol - means ancient
Kapiyam - Treatise ?
So it must have had a different name and eventually people started calling it the old or ancient treatise and forget even the name of the writer. He/She is simply called Tolkapiyar meaning the respected man (ar) who wrote Tolkapiyam.
But the author references many treatises before his time but we don’t have them anymore :-))))

I think the author changed his name to Tolkappiyan himself according to the panamparanar's sirappu payiram.
BTW, do we have any other references to panamparanar?
