A mass conversion to Buddhism was took place at Delhi last day. A lot more conversions at state levels are planned in the coming day as per its Organisers. This conversion was in line with the ideology of Mr.Ambedkar who converted to Buddhism in the last phase of his life. After his death the conversion to Buddhism didn’t continue among his followers till the recent movement.
In Kerala, social leaders like C.V Kunjiraman and many others advocated that the non- Brahminist Hindus shall go back to the Buddhism. But during the period of freedom struggle, he could not develop it to a movement.
One or two years back noted Malayalam poet Sri.Balachandran Chullikkad announced his conversion to Buddhism. But that was an individual act.
Now the organisers of this mass conversion are trying to convert SC/ST people and other backward caste people to Buddhism en-masse.
Though some of the Hindus consider Buddha as an incarnation of Vishnu, the conversion to Buddhism was strongly opposed by the Hindutwa forces. They want to crush down this movement at any cost.
Will the presnt movement lead to a resurgence of Buddhism in India? Or will the Hindutwa forces be successful in burying it before grow up? Or will this movement die down due to lack of proper leadership

If the movement is towards Buddhism, it should be welcomed. So long as it is not towards any of the religions that attempts to spread itself with the sword. Buddhism spreads peace. Though what happened at Delhi was nothing more a small-time political gimmick pulled off by some two-bit politicians. There was no attempt to follow any ideology or any such thing. Dont give it too much importance.

Well said Wiseman. That was a mere political gimmick, supported by the Church. None of the converts knew what was Buddhism. Their knowledge of Buddhism was as shallow as that of B R Ambedkar. His conversion was a political stunt. So, is this.

I am sorry the points may sound irrelevan but honestly it the Buddhists principles which are still let to survive in India:
After the american attack on Japan during Second WW, this is an other success story of America in eradicating terrorism globally which they found that they trouble them. And the America's determination to fight out and invade Afkanisthaan until this winter will give the Afkaanisthaan a bolt - a severe bolt that they will no longer encourage terrorism by suffocating them in this winter with electricity which were all being destroyed by the American carpet bombing. But if the poor Afkhan rebels take asylum in to Pakisthaan, and stay with them, and if Pakistan does not allow them to shelter during the winter, either theywill perish in the cold waves due to lack of electricity and heat. Russia will certainly not help Afkhan now. Therefore, it is the fate of Afkhan which was determined by itself by unnecessarily encouraging terrorism training in the Kabul arena. One thing for sure, right from the Aryan's intrusion in to Indus valley, the Moghuls, they were the best warring places and big war heroes have or must have come. There is one saying in Tamil, Oorar pillayai ootti vaLarththaal, than piLLai thaanae vaLarum. If this was known to the Great warriors of times, there need not be any fights and children will be happy. But when the children themselves fight for their wantings, their parents don't quite understand who is better that is the one's who wish to fight to win or the ones who keep mum to stay long! The Islam has it seems founded 'algorithm' and gave way to the evolution of computer software and the America(including India) is almost on a great jackpot business with this computer software, will have a tough time by virtue of principles, when the same people unitedly pu together to suffer. No religion encourages terrorism and so do Islam. I guess that since the existing religions have no answer to prevent terrorism, there mustbe a new religion which should evolve so that the terrorists are not encouraged. If the act of terrorism is in the gene, then such race can be spotted-out. But they are not a non-terminal and only voluntary activity. Honestly I fell that the war should end before a week's time and may be it might start during the summer so that furthe de-electrification bombing attacks will not further destroy people on a temporary grounds. May be America wants to get something out of Taliban who knows where the big fish lives?

Karthik- I do not know the relationship between the Buddhists and Christians in India, but outside India it is not that good. I read in some Catholic journal that after the fall of communism, the Vatican has considered Buddhism the next greatest threat to the spread of Catholicism. I would imagine that Christians see Buddhism as a great rival for conversion in India. I would be very suprised to see collusion between Buddhists & Christians in India.
Do you have evidence linking the Christian agenda to Ambedkar or other Indian Buddhists?
I have previously stated both my hopes and reservations about Buddhism in India. As long as Buddhism is kept out of politics, I support its spread in India (I think I agree with Wise Man here).
