  I do not think that Sonia Gandhi's foreign origins are an issue to the forming of government. What we should discuss are the implications of the communists coming to power. This is a real shame. Please read their demands and agenda on rediff about what is to be scrapped and god knows what their outlook on India's future will be like. Here's a catch - How about Congress joining hands with the "opposition" and removing the left from power..

  Apart from the "Scrap the separate Divestment Ministry" rhetoric - the Left hasnt placed any specific demands - on the next cong-led govt.
  
  The CMP(COmmon Minimum Program) is yet to be finalised, and yet, the stupid stock investors keep blaming the Left, for the panic that was created by frenetic and mindless selling on monday.
  
  I guess the "Economic pundits" can live with 2 or 3 genocidal pogroms rather than a crash of 10% on stock market - i guess!
  
  How more ridiculous India's priorities could be?
  
  We need the Left to keep the sangh parivar thugs on leash.
  
  Otherwise there wont be an india - with a sensex index of >6000!
  
  I wonder if Reforms is all about the sensex at 6000...isnt there anything else to it?

  Geno, I am not saying that sensex > 6000 should be the sole reason for a government to stay in power. I suppose our economy is still pretty flaky and our markets are not that efficient as they are made out to be. It's a little sad though that the confidence that FII's had has eroded. Well, so be it. What I am concerned about is that the left wants the country to be allied with Arab states and roll back our cooperation with Israel and the US. Let me give you my position on these alliances. I have a lot of respect for the Israelis and let's face it, there is a country that is a close second when it comes to paradise for a lot of Indians (talking about the US). If what rediff reports is true, the left wants all military exercises with the US to stop. This I feel is a griveous mistake. We should engage the sole superpower at all levels. Since we have made our workforce available to US corporations (and we need our young people to work and be employed) we ought to take this alliance further. Of course, this does not mean that we lose sight of our interests (more leverage on Pakistan, access to US military technology etc.), but enabling all kinds of cooperation can only be beneficial in the long run. At this time, there are more jobs that are on their way to our continent (Garner has revised their estimates of total number of outsourced jobs) - this can only help our economy in the long run.
