i think everybody started preferring white color for their cars after indira gandhi started the trend by choosing to use a white amby as her official car. till then almost all govt.big wigs used only foreign cars. does anybody remember any other such major cultural turning points in the history of a nation?

do you measure cultural turning points
by colour of car, colour of lipstick and mascara
etc? How foolish?

The arrival of Pepsi and Coke? Everybody wants to have a coke or pepsi rather than coconut water.

ramadas, what else do you want to measure cultural turning points with. the rise and fall of stupid politicians? that is more foolish, i'm sure. sandana veerappan is a more valid cultural ikon(spelling intended!)than many a movie star. if that's what the people want then so be it. who are we to dictate what constitutes culture or its turning points? meanwhile while on the subject of color ask any sanitary fittings supplier and he'll tell you the most popular color for toilet bowls in kerala-is green! don't know if other states have such distinct preferences. i hope some glamourroomwallah can provide us with answers.
