I wouldn't say that it's my all-time favourite book - but one of my favourites is -
'A Brief History of time' by 'Stephen Hawking'.
It's true that it may not be written for 'absolute' amateurs in science/astronomy, but it gives an amazing perspective on human endeavour in terms of understanding the world we live in, the place of human beings in scheme of things in our universe, and most importantly an incredible account of 'time' itself.

Kunta Kinte is the central figure in Alex Haley's 1976 book Roots. According to Haley's research, Kinte was 17 when he was captured and taken to America as a slave aboard the ship Lord Ligonier in 1767. Roots traces the lives of Kinte and his descendants down to Haley himself, Kinte's great great great great-grandson.

Kajan,
The title of the book you've mentioned is "The Hundred". It does not have anything about "Allah" but it has "Prophet Muhammed" in the 100 list.
It is a "must read" book. I have read both the English and the tamil translation.

I've started reading Anne Rice and H.P. Lovecrafts books, I think they are good horror genre writers.
