Fodder,Shoes,Colour TV,Medicines,Arms,Land Purchase,Lottery,Telecom,Construction,Sugar,Rice,
Coal,Railway....and now Coffin! Can you believe it ? It happens only in india. That fellow sitting in the defence ministry kicked coca-cola out of india in the 70's and is now supporting the liberalisation policy.Spoke for one hour supporting the Morarji Deasi govt during the no-confidence motion only to ditch him later. For the whole life he was speaking against the production of nuclear arms and then supported it when he was the defence minister. And became defence minister even before the Venkata Swami Commission could submit it's report. If he could become defence minister without waiting for the commission's report, then why form it in the first place ? What about the tax-payers money which is being spent ? The BJP politicians use to say there are the "Party with a difference ".And after this coffin scam nobody should have any doubts whatsoever if they were to grasp the meaning of this statement.Conviction (pun intended) is what these people need most, when due to their unscruplulousness they are willing to share any political bed.

Sridhar,
It is a known fact that politicians have neither shame nor scruples. But this is just unbelievable. Hundreds of able young handsome men who had their whole life ahead of them make the ultimate sacrifice of life of for their country. And these politicians, middlemen and whoever else involved in this scandal are making money over the dead bodies of these martyrs? Gives me great hopes about my country.

Neel,
Not even a single politician has been convicted for corruption charges in our country for the past 53 years. It is sad to see corruption getting accepted as an inevitable part of our society. It was there in nehruvian era.TTK case is a very good example.Even nehru did not set a good example.TTK was later inducted in to the cabinet.I think it grew endemic when indira gandhi became prime minister. Her tussle with the "syndicate" is well known. The naked power struggle clothed as a fight between "progressives Vs conservatives " (the first congress split),sanjay gandhi and his cronies (maruti, emergency),statements such as "corruption being a global phenemenon" were basically the early symptoms of this malaise which has affected our system very badly. When the common man sees the men in higher authority indulging in corruption and getting away with it,he too takes it for granted." The coffin shame" really shows how chances are not left by those who are in a postion to make money of their complete divorce from priniciples and ethics.
I would like to know whether there has been any concrete example of any country having successfully reduced the scale of corruption by it's govt and administrative policy.Transparency International ( i think it's a berlin based NGO)releases the index of the most corrupt countries every year.Once we were in the top ten list.China and pakistan being ahead of us every time is not much consolation !
