why study history? it outdated isnt it? "
We study history so we do not repeat past mistakes.
But as for shakespeare, I'm trying to do a research paper on Shakespeare in Schools and I cannot find any creditable information (i.e. published in a journal) that argues whether shakespeare should be forced on the students, or that it shouldn't be manditory. If anyone has any information for me It would be very appreciated.

the mans syntax is knowledge in its own right.
it gives students a better understanding and creative ability to use words to the fullest extent. and his legacy alone, stresses the more you write and read the better you'll be- it teaches practice, discipline, and staying focused will keep you ahead of the others.

my class had a debate about studying shakespeare. And the main point why we shouldn't study Shakespeare is because shakespeare made most of his stories based on mythology. Therefore it would be better to study mythology or the Bible because all stories are alluded to the bible or mythology.

Shakespeare was such a great predictor with his plays that there are lessons to be learned today. Shakespeare captivated his audiences in the reniassance and he still captivates his audences hundreds of years later. Shakespeare has lessons to be learned even today when circumstances are completely different. If anyone would like to know more about Shakespeare from a peer instead of a teacher, just drop me a line.

Shakespeare, Shakespeare, Shakespeare, uses many words to say the one thing, takes the effort to pick at the world around him and the mistakes we make yet not looking upon himself always about tragdies and love and etc. i dont want to read Midsummer nights dream, or macbeth or romeo and juliet, it is constanly done over and over again its a bore he was born along time ago learn his literature in a history class why in english when our literature is yet worse cause we waste our time on petty things like shakespeare

Why study Shakespeare? You all seem to agree on the point that Shakespeare is hard to read and comprehend. Although the languange itself is difficult to modern readers, if you read enough it becomes much easier. The Bard, though not the "best" playwrite of all time, is one that will stay in the curriculum for a long time, so get used to it. His works deal with themes that are timeless (ie. love, jealousy, religion, family). Many of you complained about the same old plays that everyone has read (Romeo and Juliet ect.), try reading come of his other lesser read classics such as the Tempest, Othello, King lear. Don't write off an author because the language is too difficult. Without these masters we would all be reading Sesame Street.
