  As per the Tamil epic Chilappathikaram MathEvi is the second wife of the hero (Kovalan). Kovalan had a wife called Kannaki. But he deserted his wife for MathEvi. MathEvi was a dancer in the temple. Kovalan lost his wealth to MathEvi and finally came back to his wife Kannaki. To make a livelihood they both went to Madurai. There Kovalan was killed and his wife took revenge of the entire city for her husband's life.
  
  There are other MathEvi's also in Tamil history (Also now). I hope you are not enquiring about them.
