Hi! Discussions on the microwave really helped and now i'm thinking of switching to the electric cooker for cooking rice, now how healthy is this? And what are the best types/brands and prices? If electro magnetic rays are harmful then how different is the electric cooker and the oven to a microwave (hope they are different as i believe)

After reading about the microwave hazards, I have a doubt. Is only cooking in the microwave is dangerous? or reheating also? I use microwave for the purpose of reheating. Everywhere it is mentioned that 'food cooked in microwave ' is dangerous! How about reheating? same as that of cooking?

Microwave cooking is not at all harmful. Anybody who knows basic Physics would agree. The principle is to vibrate every molecule of food by bombarding them with high frequency em waves. Due to high freq vibrations it gets heated up. The electric cooker simply heats the vessel by way of a tungsten coil. This is also not harmful.

It has not been proved in the article that microwaving food makes it radioactive. Only radioactive substances cause carcinogenic effect.
Of course the best way to cook food is the conventional way. But why does the article leaving
out science talk about the Nazis and the Soviet Union. The article accepts that no recognised organisation has proved that microwaving food is dangerous.

Thanks Ramadas. Ofcourse if it is really harmful, the conscious US government will not allow such a product to be used around in homes. Yet the repeated talks of its harmfulness raised such a question in my mind.

I can post research studies showing that micro oven causes changes in food (protein structres esepcially). this is harmful for the body. Well these studies are supressed because that will effect microven indusstry which is huge.
"Ofcourse if it is really harmful, the conscious US government will not allow such a product to be used around in homes".
There are many things that the govt does not want the public to know. Well I am not going to that.
Do you agree cigarette smoking is bad. Why does then the USA govt does not ban it.
Use your brians.
STEAM COOKING is the HEALTHIEST. Scientifically proven.

I do believe that steam cooking is the healthiest. Almost all other forms of cooking seem to have some negative aspect to them. However, not all foods can be steam-cooked I believe. Besides, I feel a good balance should be achieved.
Something steamed (puttu), something fried (plantains), something boiled (rice), something preserved (achar or uppilittadhu) and so on.
So long as it is vegetarian, I am not really particular about how it is prepared because we usually eat a variety of foods.
I guess it is individual preference.
Occasionally I like hot, steaming rice with fragrant ghee dribbled over it and some crushed pappadam. Sometimes I add a little bit of salt. Some mezhukkuperattu if availabe. Just these and I will be in heaven. Add pradhaman and I will be in seventh heaven!

Hey rooparaj,
how does this help the discussion on electric cooker objectively does it help throw any light on how advisable it is to use the cooker? Anyway the truth is no one knows for sure about it and we kind of tend to accept and make excuses because of this ignorance. And it is the way of life!

Pradeep this is a forum to discuss opinions and not to be harsh or criticise the others. One cannot use "brians" and even if we try to use our brains we have only one. The point everyone is not perfect and we are generally here to learn from the others and not just use our Brain and think that we know everything. So be courteous next time when u enter your comments. Thanks.

Dear Raj,
But Why did you take "brains" in a derogarotry sense?. I meant "think about it".I am sorry for hurting the readers. We usually take everything for granted. Many information is hidden from the public. Some True information are damage to some bussiness. Those eho dont think about all these will be a scape goat for their profits.

Fresh coconuts are defintely good. In the thread which oil is good for cooking, I mentioned how eating a balanced food is good instead of avoiding some foods and over eating some. Now health departments advice public to eat nuts because they provide nutrients. Coconut is one among that. It's oil is rich in saturated fatty acids but you get other benfits eating it. Coconuts have good healing power. Its soothing for intestines and stomach. I have healed atleast a couple of people with oral cancer lesions with coconut. It has unbeleivable healing value. We dont use any creams and lotions, we rarely get dry skin even in snowy winters. If we rarely get, we use coconut oil. It immediately goes away.
Use coconuts in moderate amounts. When you use coconut fresh, then you can reduce the oil in your curries. Infact instead of using more oil if you use coconut the dish would be more tasty and at the same time your body absorbs less fat. Oil will be directly absorbed whereas the oil hidden in the coconut cannot be absorbed by the intestines becuase they are trapped in the coconut fibers. Hope you understand this.
