Dahl for Chappaathi

I am looking for a very good recipe to prepare 'Dhal for chappathi'.
More than one recipe is heartily welcome.
As soon possible.

Dhal
Heat 2 tsp of oil and when hot add 1 tsp of jeeragam, perungayam(optional), turmeric powder, 2 tsp of dhania powder(optional) and 4-5 green chillies(slit.
Saute for a minute and then add 1 cup of payatham paruupu.
Add 2 to 3 cups of water and leave the karandi in the pan so that the water does not overflow. Let it simmer for 30 minutes or so till the parruppu is well cooked. Finally add salt.
Tomatoes, karuvepilai can be added 5 minutes before removing from fire.
Onions can be added in the beginning.
Garam massala can be added in the end.
When done this way(cooking in a open vessel) the dhal has a finer texture. The esier method is to pressure cook dhal and then heat oil and add all ingredients and saute and add cooked dhal.
Dhal Makhani
Take 1 cup of black ulutham paruppu, 6-7 red chillies, a small piece of ginger, turmeric poder and 2 tbsp of butter and pressure cook for 7 whistles and reduce the flame and let it cook for another 15-20 minutes.
Heat 2 tsp of oil and add 1 tsp of jeeragam. Once it splutters add onions and saute tils it turns golden.
Add 1/2-1 tsp of garam masala powder.
Add the cooked daal.
Let it simmer for 5 minutes.

Ha ha, i have the same prob. i can understand tamil but Not word to word. I can help u with few words here- karuvepilai: curry leaves, karandi:ladle, i not sure i always get confused with this perungayam must be onions, and payatham crazy?!

Perungayum seems to be asafoetida and karuvepilai, curry leaves. I wonder if payathum is green gram?

Hi
This is the easy way to make dhal for chapathi
onion-1 (cut into cubes)
tomato-1(cut into cubes)
green chillies-3-4(acc to ur spice level)
garlic-2
moong dal-1 cup
pressure cook all the above ingredients for 2 to 3 whistles.season it with mustard seeds,urad dal,asofoetida,curry leaves,red chillies.
Ready to serve

In reading Hemant's new biographical thread, I believe the definition for karandi is implied: it must mean "assistant" or something like it.

Look at the contest of recipe added by Mr. Kumarsv

I think in this particular contest, 'karandi' means spoon. Or otherwise, how to place "assistant in place" in the pan???? :-))

Ya I remember some people use the word karandi for spoon in our place. I think it is a malayalam word.

I imagine that some assistants get themselves in hot water from time to time. However, it seems the definition of karandi is relative to the context. I will keep that in mind when reading recipes.

I found this in a recipe from Hemant's new website. The definition seems to be relative to the context, indeed! "Take ghee in a Thallikku karandi (tempering ladle)..."
