Idiappam,
first of all get that poor man's name right!
He is Hemant (meaning the season called autumn) not Herman or German!

Home remedies for hair loss
Is your hair falling in clumps?
Are you scared of shampooing it because you know your comb will be covered with entangled hair strands soon after?
Are you embarrassed with the hair strands that stick to your clothes all the time?
Why does hair fall in the first place?
Causes could vary from the very obvious ones like dandruff and prolonged illness to inadequate and insufficient diet, stress, hereditary factors, lack of a hair care programme and the type of water and shampoo being used everyday. Changing weather could also lead to hair loss and, especially this time of the year when so many people face a similar problem of hair loss, it is important to take care of one's hair and what better way than to do it naturally.
Massage the hair with a combination of pure almond oil and castor oil and steam the hair. This should be done twice a week. After massaging the hair, make the following hair pack - two teaspoonfuls each of amla, shikakai, reetha, fenugreek, triphala and brahmi powder. Mix with two eggs and apply all over the hair. Leave on for about 30-40 minutes. This should ideally be done after oiling the hair and twice a week. You will see the results within two weeks.
Diet plays an important role in keeping a good skin and hair, and although most people know about a well-balanced diet, very few balance it just the right way. Here are some tips:
Take raw food like carrots, cabbage, tomatoes, celery, spinach, cauliflower, lots of fruits and plenty of green vegetables and dairy products such as milk, paneer curd and cheese.
Use henna. Apart from thickening and conditioning the hair, it also acts as a natural hair dye. ·
You may not believe it but a regular exercise program could also help the hair growth as increase in blood circulation helps take out the toxins in the body through perspiration. Work out an exercise program for yourself at least 3 times a week, and feel the difference it makes to your hair.
Multi-vitamins also help as often internal weakness or the diet that we take is insufficient and could result in hair loss. I would recommend chyawanprash, especially in winters as, being amla based, it has high contents of Vitamin C.
Dandruff is also dangerous and leads to hair loss. Control it at its early stages and you will not suffer as much. Never use other people's combs and brushes, and disinfect your hair tools with Dettol and wash them in warm water once a week to avoid fungus and other infections. ·
If you suffer from dandruff, massage your hair with warm coconut oil and apply the juice of 2 lemons, steam your hair and leave on oil for about 2 hours. Shampoo with a mild shampoo. This should be done 2-3 times a week.
Drink at least 10-12 glasses of water daily as this will flush out accumulated toxins in the body.
Avoid sugary foods, fried foods and too much spice in your food.
Stress... today's biggest killer also leads to severe hair loss. Worry, depression and tension are all inter-related and I very often find that we really have no time at all for ourselves and work like robots, take out time to relax.
Believe me this is very important. Take up a hobby. Listen to music, read but, for God's sake, don't become a couch potato in front of the TV or computer! One, it's bad for your eyes and many times I find people who are really stressed out just flicking channels, without really watching any program at all. That doesn't help relieve stress or strain. Better that you get to the root of your problems. Believe me there is no use worrying about them as this will only create more depression and in turn more hair fall!
Never brush or comb dripping wet hair. This also leads to hair loss. And, always a wide toothed comb. Avoid heated rollers, and hair dryers. Chemical colours and hair dyes are disastrous for your hair too. You would do better greying gracefully with lots of hair on your head than turning bald!
If you have recently suffered from any illness or have had a surgery or even borne a baby, you will experience hair loss and I advise you to see your doctor to get on to the right sort of diet and vitamins that your body requires. So...start right away and, for God's sake, don't lose any more hair over it!

My daughter (16 months old) and I have been suffering from cough and chest congestion for over 15 days now.. None of the over the countermedicines (in the US) is having any effect. When I visited the doctor, they said that it was viral infection and will take a long time to heal and there is no medicne that they can prescribe.
Are there are home remedies for this? I need home remedies that is suitable for my daughter too. My other dilemma is that you don't get many Indian herbs here in the US.
Please help.
