Also what are the Tamil names for the following fishes:

Red Snapper
Red Fish

  Fish Tamil names (for few fishes) differ from area to area. In the middle east coastal area(!) of Tamilnadu(Nagapattinam area), we use the following names and equivalent(?) english names.
  
  
  Seer fish is called Vanjaram in Tamil.
  Barracuda is called Sheela in Tamil.
  Salmon is not Vanjaram, I dont remember the tamil name for (Indian)Salmon.
  
  Other fishes and their tamil names
  
  Malabar trevally - Parai
  Little Tunny - Soorai
  Yellowfin Tuna - Kerai
  Indian Mackerell - illa(eye-la)(or Kanagnkelluthi)
  Barracuda - Seela
  Indian goat fish - Kendal (not kendai)
  Cuttle fish - kanawai
  Squid - Oosi kanawai
  Marine cat fish - Kelluthi
  Leather skin - Thera (variety of parai)
  Whip tail sting ray - Thirukkai
  Indian Halibut - Pothal
  Shark - Sura ;-)
  Snapper - Kondal (another funny name 'Aathal')
  Seabass - Koduvai
  Cod - Panna
  Spade fish - Seepu Thiratai
  Parrot fish - Kili mooku hehe :-)
  Pomfret - Vavwall

  Mullet is the common name for Kendai (not from sea), a land water fish, there are many varities. Try anything in the name Mullet, nothing harm. :-)

  Vanjaram is not salmon. Vanjaram is King Fish.
  
  Salmon is red in color, we dont get it in India.
  
  Sardines is not neththili, it is known as maththi or chaala.

  Tamil names for Cod, Makerel and Tuna I have already given. Anyhow once again for you,
  
  COD --- Panna
  Tuna --- Kerai
  Mackerel ----- illa(eye-la)(or Kanagnkelluthi)
  
  
  Sardine and Herring are almost same, they are from CLUPEIDAE family. (if I am not wrong, small size Herrings are Sardines)
  
  Sardine(herring) is called as Maththi(ma-ith-thi) in Tamil (pls note down Mr. Senchu).
  
  Trout belong to Salmon family(SALMONIDAE).
