What proportion should I use for making idlies with Jasmin rice ? If I use usual ratio that is 4:1 (rice:urad dal) will that be right ? Thanks

Sorry, the idlis with Jasmine rice do not come well at all.Idlis come out well with long grain rice and parboiled rice the brand you get in American stores (uncle ben parboiled rice) The ratio is 2and a half cup of extralong grain rice and half a cup of parboiled rice and 1 cup udad dal soak it separately in hot water and grind it after 8 hours and ferment it overnight.Add salt in the morning and then make it. Let me know how it turned out.Soaking in hot water is the key

Hi Maya, when I mean extralong grain rice, the one you get from American Store like the storebrand or anyother brand but it is regualar rice (says extralong grain rice )on the top of the bag.Idlis do not come well with Jasmine or any flavored rice like basmathi etc.
