Hi
Please send me the recipes of vegetarian dishes that can be made in a Microwave. I do not want to use the microwave just for steaming the veggie and later use conventional methods of Kadai or a Cooker.
Particularly, I am interested in making Sambar, Rasam, Koottu and a veg curry. It is ok even if I have to switch on/off the oven 2 or 3 times to stir the dish.

herez the recipe for.....
CAULIFLOWER MANCHURIAN
u need cauliflower, cornflour, maida mavu, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, tomato sauce, chilli sauce, spring onions,
Method
separate the cauliflower into florets, wash and clean well.
now to the florets add cornflour and maida mavu and jus mix them well into the florets .add enough since u have to fry them. add soy sauce , crushed ginger and garlic(3-4 pieces) to this and mix well.add salt and red chilli powder to taste.mix well and allow to marinate for about 15 min.
now fry the marinated florets little by little till they get crisp and golden. keep this aside and use the remaining oil to make the sauce.
sauce
to a little oil add tomato sauce, chilli sauce, crushed ginger garlic (1-2 pieces enough ),and spring onions and stir fry.dont wait long to add the fried cauliflower.add them to this sauce and stir fry in high flame .add the soy sauce and stir fry for about 2-3 min.dress it with some spring onions on top and serve.
cauliflower manchurian ready to eat.
tips: u can use the same sauce and stir fry all vegetables to get the chinese flavour .remember to always cook on high flame for chinese

priyanandu, you can make ribbon pakoda by replacing kadalai maavu with pottukadalai podi.
Not only it tastes great, its much healthier and doesnt use up oil that much.
Another easier dish is pottukadalai podi with sugar..a common replacement for sundal during navarathiri time(powder pottukadalai with sugar..thats it)

hi priyanandu
Pottukadalai urundai is yummy in its own style. Clean pottu kadalais well and keep it separately. Add jagger and water in a pan to prepare caramel (vella paagu). Let the caramel get concentrated well till it gives wire when touched between fingers. (Kambi paagu). Now add pottu kadalai and mix it well with a wooden spatula which is coated with some oil. After mixing before the heat goes off, make it to small urundais. This will lost long for more than a month.

Hi
Pottukadalai undai can also be made with just powered pottu kadalai, powdered sugar(equal amount)and ghee. Sieve the pottu kadalai mavu and powdered sugar together, add elaikkai podi&warm ghee ( as much as you need to bind them)and make balls. These undais freeze well. You can warm them in a microwave when ever you want have them HOT.....hot.

I make the Idlis from Gits mix in Microwave. It's fast, easy and cooks in 1.5-2 mins. Actually, you can get the plastic idli maker in India now. I'm not sure if those are sold here yet or not. A friend of mine sent it to us. Been very useful. Or you can even use small dessert microwavable bowls to cook it in.

Dear Seremvban, This is in response (though late) to your query about PANEER and NOT panner . Now Paneer is nothing but Homemade indian cottage Cheese. Try this method. Boil milk (say 1 ltre) let it cool to be a bit on the warmer side. Add 2 tsp of lemon juice and stir it. The milk disintegrates, now sieve this milk through a fine Muslin cloth and then tie the residue in (the Muslin cloth) overnight or at least 5-6 hrs, so that maximum moisture oozes out and /or is squeezed out. Open it, presto this lump that you get is the paneer. P.S. 1 litre of normal milk should give you 1/5 th of the quantity i.e. 200 gms of Paneer.

Pottukadalai is roasted chana dhal. It is used for chutney and other south Indian dishes. It is used to thicken the gravy in the morkuzhambu (buttermilk preparation).

I saw someone looking for making jelebi, find here the receipe
Jalebi
INGREDIENTS ½ cup maida ¼ cup dahi (yogurt) preferably sour ghee for deep frying a strong polythene bag for piping out the jalebis 1 ½ cups sugar 1 ½ cups water METHODMix flour and dahi, to form a paste of dropping consistency, adding water if necessary. Cover and leave to ferment for 6-7 hours. Dissolve sugar in the water, over low heat, then cook over high heat till slightly thick---one thread consistency. Keep aside, warm, till you fry the jalebis. Heat the ghee and fill the bag with the batter. Twist the opening to seal the bag. Snip a corner to make a small hole Hold the bag over the hot ghee and pipe out swirls (like whirlpools), straight into it. Lower the heat to medium and turn the jalebis over and fry till a light brown on both sides. Lift out of the ghee and put into the syrup, leave thus for a minute or so, and lift out again and serve.
