Prithviraj, Meera Jasmine win Critics awards
Prithviraj and Meera Jasmine have bagged the prestigious Kerala Film Critics Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress for 2003.

Prithviraj won the award for his performances in ‘Meerayude Dukham Muthuvinte Swapnam’ and ‘Chakram’, while Meera Jasmine got it for her roles in ‘Paadham Onnu: Oru Vilapam,’ ‘Kasthurimaan’ and ‘Gramophone’.

The awards were announced by the Critics Association here Saturday. They will be given away on April 25.

The critics awards have been in existence for three decades and are considered second only to the state government's film awards.

T.V. Chandran was adjudged best director for "Paadham Onnu: Oru Vilapam". The social film, which looks at child marriages in Muslim society, won the best film award.

The Critics Association has given the Chalachitra Ratnam award to Mohanlal, who celebrated his silver jubilee in the film industry last year.

Character artistes Lalu Alex and Siddique jointly bagged the Runner-up Best Actor award, while Kavya Madhavan got the Runner-up Best Actress award.

Veteran playback singer P. Jayachandran and Sujatha Mohan were the winners in the category of male and female playback singers.

"Balaettan", in which Mohanlal was in the lead, has been selected as the most widely acclaimed film. The special jury award has gone to veteran film director Lenin Rajendran for "Anyar".

The queen of yesteryear Malayalam films, Sheela, who made a comeback after more than two decades, and comedian and character artiste Innocent were given special awards for their performances in the family melodrama "Manasinakkare", which is currently running to packed houses.
