Mammotty-Actor of 25 years
Once Amitabh Bachan commented!!I think God is impartial.Otherwise why only Malayalam industry is getting such talented actors in a heap.He is true.By far I think there is no other film industry in India who has boasted this much great actors.Many has passed 25 years in this industry.And today we have a great actor completing his 25 yrs.His name is Mohammed Kutty which is "Mammotty" to all the Malayalees.Born in a small place call Chempu,this person has reached a height where now people identify "Chempu" as the birthplace of Mammotty.
Mammotty during his youngers days always dreamt to be an actor.So like all wannabe actors,He was a regular visitor of sets during his free days.So he first appeared in front of the camera shot in Sathyan's "Anubhavangalude Paalichikal" as an extra.He also played an extra in a Prem Nazir movie. In that one he plays the role of boatman who replaces Nazir by the landlord.Before shooting Nazir greeted Mammotty by saying "You came to replace me!!".And so did the words come true.
"Devalokham" was his first movie as an actor (Not Extra).The movie failed to complete but the writer of the film MT noticed him and gave him a role of a drunkard in Azad's "Villkanundu Swapnangal" scripted by MT himself.That movie starred Sukumaran who was the superstar that time.He along with Soman and Jayan replaced Sathyan,Nazir & Madhu monopoly in the industry.He then acted in K G George's Mela.But that movie also failed.But his performance helped him to get the role of a police officer (which he potrayed in many films) in George's "Yavanika".This movie was a big challenge for him.On one hand it was the choice of his career.Either as an actor or as a lawyer.On other hand,he had Bharath Gopi with a meaty role.But that film give him a huge recognisation and from there own He started to take over the industry slowly and steadily.
He had numerous hits with P G Vishwanbharan,I V Sasi and Joshi.Most of them political or family subjects.But his repetation of characters and emergence of another great actor stalled his career for a while.During those days his characters were mainly a businessman with a suitcase on one hand and Baby Shalini on the other hand.People though Malayalam was about break the dual actor monopoly which they saw.But with Joshi's "New Delhi" and K Madhu's "Oru CBI Dairy Kuruppu",Mammotty along with Mohanlal took over the thrones of Sathyan & Nazir from Sukumaran and Soman.Later Suresh Gopi took over the Third and Final throne of Jayan ie Madhu's.Then from there as everyone says there was no looking back
for Mr Mammotty.He had numerous great performances as Thaniyavarthanam,Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, Nair Saab,Valthsalyam,Vidheyan,Ponthan Maada,Mathilukal,Mrigaya,Mahayaanam,Athiraathram,
Aavanazhi etc.And more recently in "Kaazcha",he displays with the same fire in him just like 25 years before.And we expect more great performances from him in near future.
