Have you guys seen this movie? I don't miss any of its reruns on TV. Mindblowing stuff. Kottarakkara in one of the best portrayals ever on Malayalam screen. With an ensemble cast comprising Satyan, Naseer, Adoor Bhasi, Sankaradi, Bahadur, Padmini, Ambika and Govindan Kutty, the performances are absolutely top-notch. A real eye-opener for those who can't stand the "dramatics" of vintage movies. Proves again that what we lack now is good adaptations of brilliant literary works. The book written by Paarappurathu was a gem as well.

Yes. It was a classic film from K.S.S with Kottarakkara giving one of the gratest perfomance seen in malayalam cinema. All others did well and we should appreciate Satyan and Naseer for acting secon fiddle roles. We cannot expect this from present superstars.
Our script writers should find out more and more gems from malayalam novels/shortstories. But we also need directors like Sethumadhavan.

When I think of Kottarakkara, 'ara nAzhika nEram' and 'chemmEn' are the movies coming foremost in my mind. The beautiful song 'nithya visuththayam kanya mariyamE' is from this movie, I think.
'paNi thEraththa vEdu' is also based on pArapuraththu's novel - is it not?

Thanks Vibu. It is 'Samayamaam radhathil'. While on the subject of 'nadhi', do you remember the ever green darbari kanada melody by KJY 'kari mukil kaattile'? Nadhi was KJ Antony's production (I still remember his velichappadu character in 'Nirmaalyam')..

mix-up galore :-)
'aayiram paadha sarangal kilunki' was the 'nadhi' song I was referring to.
'kari mukhil kaattile' is from..yes.. 'kaLLi chellamma'

mkn.. I am not sure whether nadi was P.J Anony production. But he did a very good role in it. Another great actor like Kottarakkara. He brought first Bharat for Malayalam thru his Velichapad role in Nirmalyam.
Yes, Aayiram paadasarangal of Nadhi was an evergreen song by KJY . Karimukil was another gem of songs from Kallichellamma sung by Jayachandran.

Panitheeratha veedu was an excellent movie. The ending where nasir decides to join the army and devote his future life for the country was especially poignant..Alummoodan was great too, in the comic scenes..

And Vayalar at his best in 'Pani theeraththa veedu' - with 'Suprabhadam' (Jeyachandran) and 'kannu neer thulliye sthriyodu uvamichcha kavya bhavane..abhinandhanam' (incidentally the best song sung by the composer M.S.Viswanathan in Malayali - only very few know he is a Malayali)

r u sure MSV is a malayali? I thought he is Tamil. Another very good song in the movie was 'Kaattumozhukkuum kizhakkottu' by jayachandran.
Bahdoor's double role in that movie is unforgettable

Vibhu,
M.S.V's full name is Manayakaththu Subramania Viswanathan. He hails from Elapulli, near Palakkadu.
There is an interesting article on him ('Fascinating Journey to fame') by Randor Guy in today's (28th Feb - Thursday) The Hindu - Metroplus supplement.
Pl search their site - it may be available there.

Just curious if there is any chance to get a copy of the Malayalam movie NirmAlyam (~1973). Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Ravi
