I recently had a chance to watch this again and watched a hundred times many scenes.


I think this movie is the one that started Lal's "Larger than human life" roles and eventually causing Lal's career's downfall.

It has all the ingredients for a Lal fan and drives crazy. I could not resist seeing it again and again.

I haven't seen any movie that is so much hero dominated than this.

In no scene, Lal is shown inferior to anybody.

I wish Rajinikanth could have remade this rather than Baba.


Examples
--------

1. To start with, Lal outlasts a gang of businessmen guarded by Machine Gun security man and clinches 50 crores for Sai kumar. SaiKumar awards him the "Kovilagam" he wanted.

2. Lal enters Kovilagam and gets a group of "chingidis" in Maniyam Pillai, Kunjan, Hanifa, Pappu and a few more who are at his legs.

3. He pushes Manju to the corner teasing her always, drinks always still Manju is at his legs waiting for Lal to accept her.

4. Manju challenges her that he knows nothing about music and in the next scene Lal relaases Karnatic numbers that can make Chemmangudi shame.

5. Next scene he crushes around 10 Kalari experts effortlessly and sets the challenge for Narendra Prasad.

6. Priya Raman a rich girl falls under his legs seeking Lal as partner and Lal declines. He approves Manju and Manju gets "Jenma Saphalyam". Notice the fact that Lal does not gon after them, they go after Lal and he simply decides.

7. In the Festival dispute, DSP Ganesh and Collector Raman give outright support to Lal and behave as if they are servants of Lal.

8. He outplays 20 people headed by a famous kalariman "Chengalam Madhavan" in rain fight.

9. In the last minute, the priest refuses to do Puja and the substitute Mani is abducted and at that time Lal unleashes the truth that he was son of Nambuthiri who sucided and wanted to conduct festival as his turn. He duly remebers all the "Manthirangal" and becomes acting Priest.

10. Through out the film, all the surrounding people praise him(Thamburan!!!), worship him and so on and so forth.


11. He uses the word "Chumma" (Nothing) every while and keeps the people excited.


12. Everybody wants to help him, worship him etc....

13. Finally he once again trounces enemies and conducts festival.

14. He renounces his Cap and leaves with Manju. Entire village falls at his legs and he accepts and continues as Thamburan.

I don't think one can take this much hero biased movie.

Should we say hats off to Shaji kailas for such a retreat for Lal fans and critisize him for taking Lal to peak only to let him down eventually?

  That was hilarious. You are right- I hardly found it a treat actually. I found it a sad departure from Lal's deeper roles in the late 80s and early 90s or his comic roles in others.
  
  Shaji Kailas probably thought Lal was getting to be a lot fatter than before, and going by the trend which bulky superheroes take in the south, he decided to make such a film.

  Yes Summa, u are right though Narasimham collected more money at the time of its release Thampuran was better infact Narasimham was a crap..Aaram Thampuran is still a hit in villages...it is running its seventh run or eighth run.. In south Tamilnadu also it was a hit and went into its villages..Thampuran was released in Malayalam itself in Tamilnadu (not dubbed)

  Aaram thamburan was a clean entertainment....!! at the end oru swalpam valippayi ennallathe aa padam kandirikkan valare valare nallathayirunnu. ippol irangunnathilum, oru 5 kollam aayi irangiyathilum vachu aaram thamburan was very good.

  Araam thampuran was far better compared to Narasimhom. Infact in an interview just b4 Narasimhom, shaji kailas told "Now mohanlal needs
  roles like rajini kanth"...there starts the problem..Mohanlal is not rajnikanth and kerala is not TN..
  
  but in Lal's gunda roles, "devaasuram" excells. But there is another movie we should not forget .."spatikam"..that was
  toooooooo gud..in acting, in action , in story and direction. In those movies lal was not using any extra numbers like "chumma", "shambho mahadevva" or "moone dineshaa". SO his acting was very natural. even that "aadu thomayude mundu parichati" was too natural..
  
  I am still remembering this scene..
  the scene in which he is putting the "ootta kaalana" in front of jesus and says
  "ninne kurisilaakkiyittu pala kazhu*** monmaarum

  haha sudheera....!! how can u forget the scene with NF vargheese where lal talks abt nf's son?? NF was too good in that scene also. I mean the whole sphadikam movie with lal's scenes were superb. No one in mallu film industry can come near a role like that. Not for 10 years atleast.
  
  I saw nakshtra kannulla raja kumaran. maybe i saw it for like 25 mins, after that i had to walk out of the theatre. that movie sucked. Rajasenante eettavum thara padam with thara actors, (jagathy, narendra prasad, prithvy ennivare ozhivakkunnu) Jagathiyude rolum veruthe chumma alambu.
  
  new super hero ennokke ketti chamachondu nadakkunna prthivi raaj, in my opinion is better looking than kunjakko boban, and has some naturality. pakshe aalu ichiriye ullu. but i am sure he will have some good future, if he choose his movies carefully. anyway ithokke kaanumbo ini oru nalla meesa piriyan padamo, oru nalla strong action filmo ondavan povunnilla ennanu thonnunnathu. ippolathe nadanmare kaanumbol aanu, suresh gopi, mammootty, mohan lal ennee moonnu peerude vila manassilavunnathu. eventhough suresh gopi is not that a good actor, i don't think mallu movie ever going to see a handsome, perfect guy like him in the movies.
