Kindly excuse Mr.Anup B.

Kamal haasan:
1.Great thinker of Cinema.
2.Has got wide knowledge on all fields of Cinema
3.Personality wise he looks like a north indian at the same time a south indian too.
4.Ability to bring out the best from his co-stars and cast the field's best technicians for his
movie.
5.Non shakeable spirit to be on par with the world cinema.
6.He is a director by himself
As an Actor== no doubt. one of the best actor who can perform any role.
But...
1.He has got some irritating mannerisms which i think ,due to the influence of too much viewing
of hollywood movies. In his 80's movies his hand gestures, scratching forehead, his made up(some times too much)style,
and his voice modulations were irritating.
We can put Kamal as a perfect Actor who do 100% justice to a role.(If he acts as a trumpet player.
He gets trained how to hold a trumpet/If he had 2 speak madrasi styled accent he learns that).
He is an Actor Who acts. But he often can never be natural.
We can feel he is acting when he acts.
Like the death scene of nayagan. The sounds he made and the acting were good. But we know he is acting.
But at the sametime we can never forget his roles in Apoorva Sahodharargal,16 Vayadhinilae,Nayagan,
Indian,Avvai Shanmugi(2 nmae a very few). And I feel he comes natural only if he wears masks.
============================
Mammooty:
I feel like Kamal he is a perfect actor who is ready to sacrifice anything. He is at his best when
it comes to Manly roles. But equally he can do it with ease when it comes to Ponthanmaada or Soorya
manasam kind of roles.Who can do the role he had done in Amaram?KamalaHassan?Mohanlal? NO NO .
He is at his 2 extremes.
Either he can make a perfect manly actor.(I think no one in India can beat him when it comes to
voice modulations) or putting masks (aged characters/Period Characters) .
But..
He lacks creativity in doing comedy scenes.Ditto for Dance numbers.THese are his limitations.
==========
Mohanlal:
Mohanlal can never do justice to roles done by mammooty in movies like
Amaram,Vadakkan Veeragaadha,Aavanaazhi. Also he can never do an Indian,
Avvai Shanmugi,Chaplin(Punnagai Mannan) or a 16 Vayadhinilae.
But i think he has got the greatest ability of being 100% true to natural.
Let it be any roles.HE NEVER OVERACTS.can anyone tell me a single movie in which he overacts?
He may not know how to make use of his voice modulations, but it is like a person at ur
home talking 2 u.Like a family member who is in front of u.
I feel this is a blessing for him which i am sure it is not his trained way of performing.
The way he moves around here and there while he speaks, the way he folds his dhothi while speaking,
his middle class movies made by Sathyan Anthikad are enough to speak of his greatness.
=======
i consider Kamal as a perfect actor, creator and thinker of cinema.
Mammooty as a perfect actor.
Mohanlal as a Natural and blessed actor whom can never be outperformed.

good analysis. You have pointed out the advantages and where each actor excels above the other..

hai nice analysis, but u can't say mohan lal can't act AVVAI KHANMUKHI or Vadakkan VEERAGADHA, or 16 vayathile (I am not talking about now, ofcourse he could do that role when he was young. hell even kalabhavan mani did that role)

SAAGAR, nice old topic..So there must be no doubt that Mohanlal is the most versatile and natural of these three..This was acknowledged by top Indian directors like Mani Ratnam,Ramu and Priyan..He is the Indian actor to have compared with Robert de Niro and Marlin Brando(Time)..The top Swiss cameraman Renato Berto(Vanaprastam) was astounded by his acting and the fact that very few ppl know him outside India..The subtle emotions on his face are unbelievable..watch the move 'Dasharatham' (one of my favorites, almost unheard among critics) to notice his change of emotions on every screen..If awards are the yardsticks of acting, wait for Lal to get as old as Mammootty and Kamal..

Well said Jacky. But I am not happy with your comparison. In my opinion Mohanlal is the best actor ever to walk upon this earth. Tom Hanks himself agreed with that. After seeing his movies he said no one can even closely match his talents. So do not compare mohanlal with marlon brando and rober de niro. MOhan lal has the talent of what marlon brando, robert de niro and tom hanks have put together. So we have to find out whether marlon brando will match the talents of what mohan lal got and not other way around. I hate people comparing mohan lal with hollywood actors when hollywood actor like Tom Hanks comparing himself with Mohan lal and says he is nothing in front of him. Jai Hind

Don't agree that there is any role Mohanlal couldn't, at one time or another, enact. Agree that Kamal doesn't have an iota of natural ability and agree that he and Mammooty are thoroughly dedicated and versatile.

What is your source cine_fan about Tom Hanks saying Mohanlal is the best actor worldwide? If you're making this up, which I surely think you are, you really are a basket case. I'm a Lal fan myself, but let's be realistic.

Hi Guys
I think cine_fan is correct. In one of the interviews I saw Tom Hanks mentioning about Mohan lal saying that mohan lal is unsung actor from India and deserves much more world recognition and all those stuff. The interview was published in ew.com long time back and I will publish that one also if I get a chance

Raja
Thanks for being the lonely support. Our people lack self pride. They are still in western maya and forget to recognize our talents. It needs to be recognized by american first before we recognize them. Take the case of Satyajit Ray after he was given oscar for life time achievement only he got the national award for director in India. What a shame. If I say mohanlal is the best actor and said what Tom Hanks to say then they said I am bluffing them . One straight question what do I get by bluffing these people. Some of Indians always have slavery attitude even after britisher's left and does not believe the talents our actors have. I am not going to post here in Indian section anymore as I am done with attitude of these guys.

cine_fan...no tears over your departure, especially since it is under such unnecessarily melodramatic terms...i have no inferiority complex regarding western thought on indian cinema or anything else...all i said was that i find it hard to believe that tom hanks would ever be aware of mohanlal when lal is hardly given enough recognition within india itself. and if indian people deify western actors/personalities as watermarks that measure their own quality, then it is only because of the unstoppable American media machine, which is more powerful than those within every other country combined. The globe is aware of America, but America is not always aware of the globe. This is reality. Deal with it. If I have offended you by not buying into your tom hanks claim, or if I have sadly confirmed any doubts you had about indian audiences and what they think of the west vs. india by telling you i think you are wrong about the hanks/lal thing, then I apologize. But don't leave this forum on account of the "attitude of guys" like me.

honestly speaking i have read this comparison of mohanlal with de niro over and over again and i have to say its really absurd to compare mohanlal with de niro.
first of all the way de niro approaches a role is very different to the way lal approaches a role.de niro sketches a role in a vey detailed manner and etches out nuances to the character and even undergoes tremendous physical transformation at times.remember he famously put on weight for the role of boxer le motta for the scorsese movie "raging bull"??lal never approaches a character that way.most of his transformation into a character takes place after the camera is turned on.
i belive mammootty is more closer to de niro than lal honestly.some mannerisms like that typical grin and retaining the expression even after a dialogue is said etc. r mannerisms that support my point of view.
i honestly believe lal is much closer to dustin hoffman.being extremely natural and yet to adapt to an acting ideology which retais the phrase,"committing to the moment" is wot makes his acting special.easily the most gifted artiste india has ever produced.

Cine fan,
U said that Tom Hanks staated that Mohanlal is the best actor ever to walk upon this earth. To which raja replied that Tom Hanks had mentioned that Mohanlal is unsung actor from India and deserves much more world recognition. At once, U started blabbering about indian slavery etc.,

Be practical. Just because a Hollywood actor praises someone, it is not the final judgement. Marlon Brando once stated " Sivaji ganesan can act like me, but I can't act like sivaji ganesan". But this does not make him any more or any less an actor.
Indian films are totally different in content & theme from Hollywood films. The comparison is therefore absurd.
