Anyone here used to listen to 'Maarivillu' on Radio Srilanka in the late 70s? Malayalam prorgam from 3:30 to 4:30 pm

Any thoughts on those songs played then of the late 70s? Especially the marivillu program? does anyone know the names of the presenters and the signature music used?

I used to be a regular listner of 'maarivillu' - those were my school days.
I got introduced to such gems as 'nalikerathinde naatil enikkoru naazhi idankazhi mannundu' (Chukku) and old songs like (kamukkara?) Purushotaman's 'atma .. ' (Harichandra), 'kayal arikathu valai erinjapol' (Neela kuil) etc only thru that programme. Non film songs like Jaya - Vijaya's 'paaduka paaduka naarayana naamam .. neduka neduka nithyanandam' were also regularly broadcast in the program. There were very few advertisment spots like the one voiced by Anjam Namboodri requesting for funds for the renovation of a temple (I forgot the name of the place - it is the famous Mahadeva temple where vazhudhananga neyvethyam is very famous)..
Most of the days, the program had the song from the movie 'Lottery Ticket' as the opening song - "kavya narthaki chilampoli charthiya kalayude naade mala naadu".. Incidentally watched the movie yesterday in Doordarshan.

'naalikerathinde' is from 'maram'..if I'm correct !
This channel also made famous the songs from Ramu Kariath's 'Nellu' (Salil Choudhry is the MD) by playing them repeatedly - 'kadhali..chenkathali' (Lata), 'kaiyodu kai' (Mahendra Kapoor & chorus) and 'koodu kulirudhu' (Sushila)..
I remember the Marivillu DJ's name as something like 'Karunakaran..' - when he signed off everyday, the Tamil DJ Abdul Hameed (he is very active now in Chennai as a famous TV and stage compere - he coached Kamal Hassan for the Sri Lankan Tamil dialect in 'Thenali'), Hameed used to say 'namaskaram Karunakaran' ..
I also remember Anjam Namboodri's one minute spots seeking donations for 'Guruvayoor Sri Krishna ambalam samprakshanam' broadcast over this channel..

while on the subject ...
Purushothaman's song began - 'atma vidhyalayame'. And, 'kaayal arihattu' was sung by Abdul Kader..again, if I'm right :-)

ramendran and ram, that was right. Usually I hear the song malayalam bashakan by P jayachandran, then there was thulliloru kudam theyen maari or something, songs from Eetta and Vihsukkanni were played very often. Ponnushasil Upavanagal by PJ of Salil.
But, do you know who was the composer of the introudcing theme music of maarivillu? it was a film score i believe! It was just a fantastic composition.
there was another yesudas duet that was popular? chirichum kondu ekayayi odi vanna, etc..

I used to listen to Marivillu almost regularly over 10 yrs ago.. I still remember how I listened in disbelief to their broadcasting songs from the yet to be released movie kalapani :) and as mentioned above, I've also listened to some of the old rare songs from this channel..
I think the title song was something starting with 'namaste kairalee...'

there was one oft-repeated Vani Jairam song - "ninde kai-yil pooththiri .. yende kai-yil pooththiri' in the programme - a Vishu song. Any idea from which movie?

Nalikerathinte nattil... is from 'Marunattil oru Malayali' and the child artist in Ragam is not Master Raghu. It is master Natraj.
