Hi:
During the period of 1985 to 1995 Malayalam films were excellent and superb. Excellent sripts, stories, directors and actors made the limelight and made the Mallu fims to excel above all other films. After 1996 I would say Malayalam Films started to STINNNNK and now they stink to the core - people who have nothing to do with acting are actors, actresses ( address illathavar okke aanu abinayikkunnathu). Also to add tot he fuel are Shakeela films.
In Tamil before 1995 may be a maximum of 5 films were good on a total. Others STUNK especially Rajini films. After 1996 with the advent of new actors like Madhavan and others Tamil films have come up a lot. Recent films like Minnale, Dum dum dum, 12B and others were so scintillating and excellent that they have a lookandfeel of Hollywood films. Music has Always been the best in Tamil and now it glows.
On a total there has been a total reversal of the films in Tamil and malayalam.
Please post your opinions regarding the causes and the factors that added to this - like nature of the audience. etc.

  i totally disagree with this statement. may be mallu films have lost their excellence but it is never right to say that tamil films have started excelling over malayalam. even now most of the tamil films lack proper story. in almost all the films love is the main subject. but in malayalam, films like nizhalkuthu has been a centre of notice even in foriegn countries. tamil films on the other hand are becoming mere remake of super hit malayalam films. for eg, chronic bachelor has been remade as engal annai.

  i think over all mallu films has lost the plot. tamil films ,though not neccessarily brilliant, have made strides and found a niche while mallu films are lost to find a new streak. maybe '4 the people' can upturn a new era but those 1984-92 period will never be recreated.
