Who, do you think is the best director in Malayalam?
Is it Priyadarsan? But all his non-mohanlal movies were flops.
Joshi - His movies had support from good
script writers.
Is it Adoor Gopalakrishnan...No..Never

I think the contest is between Fazil and Kamal.
So, who do you think, is the best ?

  The director Bharathan, had the extraordinary power to handle real tough subjects but close to heart..I mean the characters that we might have seen somewhere in our lives.By the end of any of Bharathan's movie it made the audience feel that "Yes, this is a Bharathan Film".As many of us know, he has created a plenty of good and fantastic movies like Devaragam, Chamaram, etc etc in Malayalam.Next, Sibi Malayil, who has created good and great movies as listed by Suneesh earlier, also is a brilliant director. HIs latest film Jaloltsavam had a good subject but it was lacking the narration style and we feel that this story was told somewhere.
  There are many directors in Malayalam who are extraordinarily superb. Priyadarshan was one director as you all know who created wonders in the Cinema field with Mohanlal....then this list goes on and on.....and there are many directors coming up too.

  winnie, youre right. and one thing i noticed is that with fazil if his movies arent' a BIG hit, they turn out to be HUGE flops. he can't be expected to be consistent in his direction, he needs a movie that's in between, with average story, average songs, average acting.
