Hi,
Can anybody tell me the raga of the song "Devanganangal" from the malayalam movie Njan Gandharvan? Yesudas's rendition is ultimate and it's one of my favourite songs.
Thanks,
Hari

can some one tell me what ragamalika is?
is it a raga ? or is it a garland of ragas in which you move from one raga to another? in that case is there any restriction to the ragas chosen?
moreover plz tell m eif there is a raga called ragamalika?
lakshman! your invaluable inputs solicited..

There is no raga called ragamalika. Ragamalika is a garland of ragas used one after the other for the different sections of a song. I don't think there are any restriction on the choice of ragas but they are selected so that they appeal to the ear.
An example of a ragamaika is given below. In this song the composer cleverly weaves in the names of the ragas in the text. Nityashree made popularized this song. There are several songs like this.

Re: rAgattil ciRanda rAgametu, I have difficulty understanding the line "dEva manOhar dEvagaandhaari" in caraNam no.6 - I guess the line is incomplete! Could it be "devamanOhariyA? dEvagAndhAriya?" consistent with other lines? Can anyone check the correct sAhityam? Thanks

PPN:
I checked in the book by Kadalur Subramaniam and it is printed as ....pancamamillAda hindOLamA dEvamanOhari dEvagAndhAri tEnium inikkum kAnaDAvA .... though dEvamanOhariyA dEvagAndhAriyA would fit in better in my opinion.

Lakshman: Thanks. It would be nice to know how Nityashri sings this particular lines. She does not render all lines, and skips a few ragams, in those recordings/concerts that I heard.

Hi Hari,
I had put the same question sometime back and did not get an acceptable answer. The pallavi and Anupallavi of the song (Devaanganangal ) ARE SURELY IN kALYAANI. bUT THE CHARANM HAS SOME OTHER swaras and bhaav. Do put in this forum if you get an answer.
Regards,
Darsana
