CM in dance, javalis etc.

Who are these 'unsung' accompanying artistes ? What ragas and/or krities typically appear ? Is the 'javali' or padam favored etc.

It will be very useful to get some meanings of the lyrics of these jaavali constructions. Is there double-entendre , coyness etc. ? Anyone with any suggestions ? Thanks

The fine 'Nanu Brovamani cheppave' of BhadrachalaRamdas supposed to be in Kalyani ( also sung unfortunately in Begada by, who else, BMK ) has a phrase 'Ekaantamaina Eka-shayyanundati vela'. I managed to translate this roughly as 'Sita! whisper my name to Him in His immense solitude and when He lays Himself next to You !" ( maybe wrong )
Ramdas' incarceration certainly stimulated a brilliant imagination and his hormones. Of course none of his krities are treated as padams or jaavalis. Is this example relatively 'tame' compared to the theme of a majority of the 'jaavalis' ?

Hi
I think "Alar Sara Parithapam" in Raga Surutti, by
Maharaja Swathithrunal" is a padam.

I have just read through this thread and remembered that I have a cassette of Padams and Javalis by R Vedavali. I've never much listened to it, so I shall go home and do so at once!
What a shame I won't understand any of the words.

The language of seduction may be universal, Nick. If there is an inlay card that is understandable please post the details.

what a fascinating thread. I live in Madras and am fortunate to learn music from T Brinda(the acknowledged Master/Mistress of Padams) Girish hasnr got around to teach them yet but I have listened to Ososi in Mukhari and Ninnujuchi(Punnagavarali), my 2 favourites so often that I know most of them I would love to listen to more, any one in Madras who can help? The Sampradaya archives has a good selection in Madras and charge Rs.5 to listen to any number of tapes per day.
In Javali's, those written on Girish's Great-Great Granny Veena Dhanambal - smara Sundaram and Sakhiprana are super!

Prof. A. K. Ramanujam has written a book translating some of the Padams and javalis. I have not seen or read the book but saw a review in one website related to CM. I will post that if I can recall the site.
