Melakartha Raagas - Why is it only 72 in number ?

I am music lover and carnatic vocal student.
I have learnt that melakartha scheme classifies 36 ragas into madhyama and next 32 in prathi madhyama. We have swaras like shadsruthi rishabham, sudha gaandhaaram, shadshruthi dhaivatham and shudha nishaadam. Why are we not having any swaras like mA sang in the place of Ga.
I mean some ragas with swara
S R1 G1 M4(ie G2) p d n s
S R2 G1 M4( ie G2) P D N S
S R1 G3 M3(ie G1) P D N S
ETC. We will have a set of raagas here with all 7 swaras (distinct) in aarohana and avarohana and obeying all other rules of melakartha raagas. In fact some old vidwans (Eg : Aattoor Krishnapishaaradi in his malayalam book "Sangeetha chandrika) have pointed out some of the raagas.
Whay are these not accepted ?
Some people say that you don't get the beauty of the raag in them. But for that have anybody tried out these combinations ? We can very well distinguish these raagas when we read it in instrument.
Any clarification please.

Darsana

Thanks hari. I have just seen the overview. Will go through it in detail. I think it is listing all those possible raagas in detail.
But the main question is why is it not getting accepted by anyone? Why is it not getting taught in Academies and all? Why do we tend to follow only the old concept of 72 ragas ?

hi,
it may be because people tend to follow traditions!! especially carnatic music field.. but hindustani is slightly different..people are following the commonly taught ragas, kritis etc as it is..very few like balamuralikrishna..are exploring the apoorva ragangal etc.. presently i am learning mridangam from sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman.. he has done lots of research on mridangam.. but those studies have not been well appreciated. I have seen a book by kerala mridangam vidwan Parassala Ravi. he also has a research oriented approach.

Hi Pallavi,
I am learning carnatic classical, and do not have much knowledge on Hindustani Ragas. You can do a search in yahoo, google or through any other known search engines.
Try this link ; there is reference to a book:
http://www.vedamsbooks.com/no21646.htm
There may be other books also available in market, which you can enquire about.
