jack, welcome back.
Usha and Meera, you are welcome.
Usha, I am still looking for those songs.
Arun, I only have half of that song. May be I will feature it as a bit song one of these days.
yvsmani, you are correct. GA is kind of stiff. But SJ is like a vine. It is a nice contrast though. |

Pick #522
Song: adi mAdivIttu mAnE
Film: Natpu
Music: Ilaiyaraja
Singers: P.Jayachandran, Shobha
Lyricist: ?
Year: 1986
Today's song shows the fun side of Jayachandran. It is not very often he sings songs like this. Wonder who this Shobha is...
I have four songs from Natpu.
unnai kANa thudiththEn - PS & PJ
adhikAlai sugavELai - SJ & KJY
Asai vechchEn - PS
and today's pick.
Are there more? Strangely there is no SPB or KSC in this album. Don't know much about the film.
This song is a nEyar(bobgalee) viruppam.

Neel: Is it not Shobha chandrasekar (Vijay's amma?). I thought this song was sung by SN Surendar. PJ vaa?
This film has some interesting news. Bombay Jayashree has said in an interview with THE HINDU that she had sung a duet with Malaysia vasudevan in NATPU. Refer the link given below:
http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/lf/2002/03/23/stories/2002032301550200.htm
Natpu had Radharavi and Sripriya in key roles though Karthik and Newcomer Sri Bharati were the lead pair. I think Ameer John had directed the movie. Moview received a Fair response, I guess! |

| Natpu was produced by P.S.Veerappa (PSV Pictures). 'Adhikaalai Subhavelai' was a hit song during that time. The story is related to some social issue (building a bridge?) it was opposed by Oor Naattamai (the villain) whose daughter (Sreebharathi from KannadaFI) is loved by Hero (Karthik). Hero and his friend (Radharavi) fight for the poor. Sripriya acted as the pair to Radharavi. Karthik acted in this film before his love-marriage to Ragini. |

SN23, It could be Shobha Chandrasekar. But the CD only credits the first name. Thanks for the link. That was interesting. Did not know that Bombay Jayashree has been in TFM since 1982.
yvsmani, "azagi oruththi" is a fun song too. From Pilot Premnath with LRE.
madhu, I remember "vAnam thottuvidum dhUramthAn" a little. I read it when it came as a series in Kumudam or Vikatan. There was a highschool girl and a highschool boy. The boy was poor. The girl was a rich Pannaiyar's daughter. That is probably what "mAdivIttu mAnE" means, huh? The series started off very poetically with a highschool romance. I remember the girl preparing yElakkAi pOtta pAl for the boy and everything. Then the story went here and there and I lost interest and stopped reading it.
BTW, Karthik anEgamA ninaivugaLukku romba munnAdiyE thuLir vittavarnnu ninaikkiREn Poor Sripriya, it almost cost her life.
kalnayak & Meera, thanks for tidbits.
Usha, bobgalee and Jack, you are welcome.
Jack & bobgalee, I will see if I can find your requests.

Pick #523
Song: onRu enggaL jAthiyE
Film: Panakkaara Kudumbam
Music: Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy
Singers: T.M.Sounderarajan, L.R.Eswari
Lyrics: ?
Year: 1964
Be it principles of labor rights, principles of racial/ethnic equality, principles of democracy, animal rights, environmentalism, women's rights or any ideal that helps bring about and maintain equality, peace, prosperity and most importantly a balance on this planet, no matter which part of the world those values emanate from, India never hesitated to borrow those ideals and apply those for the betterment of itself and the world, along with its own time-tested principles of peace and progress. Everytime I listen to this upbeat and activist song it only makes me proud to have been born in India. India may not be perfect, no country is, but considering all the obstacles it faced and continues to face it keeps proving that it is one the most progressive countries in the world.
Listen to the strong voices of TMS and LRE singing the uplifting lyrics by Kannadasan(?) and a perfect score by MSV-TKR that conveys the mood of the song on its own.
