I have noticed this - every world cup some dull European team (Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, Greece, Switzerland ipdi yaaravadhu) will come and go through the motions. Dull draws, long balls ipdi. Atleast African and South American teams can add excitement(this is an outsider's view - am not very football savvy). Yes. UEFA (European governing body) runs FIFA (World governance) and not the other way around. And there is some ratings as per the performance in the actual WC and also qualifying campaign. And lot of the European leagues have more quality compared to Africa and South America.

I also agree about loss of form meaning decent teams getting out.

Again, a question born out of lack of knowledge - arent the European leagues filled with African and South American talent. How, then, do the leagues determine world cup places?

You are right. I failed to mention that.

The Point I mentioned prior , UEFA (European governing body) runs FIFA (World governance) and not the other way around - is because UEFA's revenue are mainly due to the leagues.

Ah! This I can understand - it is probably an even worse situation than BCCI running ICC - because atleast in that case, ICC has enough smart English/Australian guys who can run through the greedy, slightly stupid BCCI guys despite the revenues the latter generates, and get their agenda done.

And another thing ICC had done well, is to use video technology and balance it with the human intervention - umpires. Football is worse off in this area. Linesmen and Referee are limited and the games are decided by odd decisions. Like last night.

happy for slovenia.. for a country that will be remembered forever as the "zahovic" country, they had the most impressive result in the playoffs..

of course it's sad that we won't be seeing the likes of Arshavin and Hiddink.. but hey it's the holy grail of all sports (yes..), every team is unique
