.Guys you have to appreciate something here. Eventhough he has faced a string a failures, I don't understand how someone can have an increasing fan base.

Packiaraj, Mohan, Ramarajan,karthik,sathyaraj,prabhu,murali( I woudl even add Vijayakanth here!) could just not survive string of failures and exited the field with disgrace (or atleast on path of exiting).

But see Ajith has stood up. Every movie of his gets a huge opening(next only to SS). Hez still in contention for the coveted position ofnumero uno of kollywood along with VJ. This simply shows his hard work, dedication, his crowd pulling power, etc.

For eg. Vikram and Surya have been doing well too, but looks like the masses are split between AJ and VJ.

I sincerely dunno the reason why he has such dedicated fans ... but looks like its still intact. I'm sure hez taking careful positive steps after varalaaru (forget Aalwar!).... but I see a good postive sign in there... do you guys agree?!?!?!

Its straight simple and clear guys.... its only between AJ and VJ.

Even VJ has had bad phases too like sachin, sivakaasi, aadhi (in last 2 years!).... and before Gilli he had thamizhan, bagavathi, pudhiya geethai, etc .... cmon guys everyone had equal number of flops compared to Thala...

Selva anne.... naan sonnadhu fact. even know I find hard to understand why like Ajith. He was in his prime when i was in IInd year (Valee, Mugavari, Amarkalam, Dheena, Citizen) ..... damn I started liking him so much. But after I came to US his 1st movie was poovellam un vaasam and after then started the slide.... Red, Jana,Anjaneya and then he put poojai for many movies which never took off like Maha, mirattal etc.

But looks like those who have liked him during his prime still continue to stick with him.

And Roshan .... neenga sonnadhi 100% unmai. Ajith should join with directors like Dharani, Selva raghavan and even Lingusamy again (for a masala movie of his age!). This will give him a better reach among masses.

Oh nooo! He should act CLASSY man! That's his identity... Movies like GHAJINI, AYUTHA EZHUTHU, KAAKA KAAKA, etc will portray him in an action-based role, as well as have enough sophistication to the character, which his looks can easily justify!

That's why I think BILLA will be a blockbuster, primarily cos it's handled by Vishnu Vardhan...

You give the same script to some other directors, they'll make AJ look like some street-dweller! They wont make it MASSY, but MESSY! Vendavae Vendaam!

Ajith swarmed by corporates

Ajith’s career has always been a roller coaster ride. Though he had enough share of luck going his way, but a mega success had always been eluding the actor. In spite of it, Ajith has been managing to get plump offers come his way.

After a much needed break in Varalaru, Ajith followed it up with a mediocre outing in Aalwar followed by Kireedam.

Currently shooting for Billa, a remake of yesteryear Rajnikanth classic, buzz is that Ajith has been assigned to work for prominent production house like UTV in the coming months.

The corporate companies, who are evincing interest to produce films in Kollywood, have been making a beeline to Ajith, Kireedam was produced by Adlabs in association with Sujatha Cine Arts.

UTV, a prominent corporate house involved in producing Tamil films too have now expressed their desire to work with Ajith.

BILLA - >> Shooting will commence in the next couple of weeks. Ajith has not recovered completely from his fever and he is taking COMPLETE REST !
We also heard from a reliable sour ce who saw few shots of BILLA that they have come out not just WELL, but AMAZING.
The asking rate for the movie has increased a lot among the distributors.

Saw Kreedam today afternoon..... Movie was Good.... Nice subdued acting from ajith .... Rajkiran was excellent....Trisha has acted/tried to act in the movie....Vivek was ok...

Ajith was looking slightly dull in the first few scenes and the first song was unneccessary,IMO... Second half was better and had more scope for acting.. Thala has acted well .. will watch again...

Not sure about other actors. Since they can give their own reasons for not attending the function, it won't be a big deal. But Thala hasn't attended any functions organised by Nadigar Sangam till now and he is not participating in Nadigar SAngam activities. So, yardstick applied for him will be different as usual. There is an article on this in a website. (Again, this might be just a speculation or a rumour). We need to wait and see

I think fans badly need a opening / Intro song. There are many fans who come to the movie just to have a FEEL of the atmosphere generated in the opening song. For a hero like Thala, opening song is a MUST. (whether it is required for the movie or not is a different factor altogether which We cannot avoid).
IMO, opening song should be there in a Thala movie. Take Aalwaar, there was no opening song in the movie. Fans were disappointed. Vijay must have realised this one and has given a number for fans so that it will satisfy them since the movie is an emotional one.

OTOH, I agree with Feddy on the climax change. I didnt like the change. The previous one was better and they could have retained it

Me and my friends went today to avm studios thru a contact knwn by my friend’s mother…we were all anxiously waitin to meet thala and were waitin outside a van..suddenly thala came out of the van..we were speechless on cin him..he was absolutely smashin and was in a hurry to goto the set tat was erected inside..we shook hands wit him and took a photo wit him!!!..tis is the happiest moment in my life!!!..then we were taken inside the studio and there was a room..the room was stylish and classy..fantastic lightin.. thala was sittin and heroine nayanthara and the fellow who acted as agaram sethu in kakka kakka was standin there..director vishnuvaradhan was xplainin a scene to thala..as we were a few mts away..cldnt hear wat was goin on..but cld c clearly as wat was happenin there..then we were watchin thala spellbound for 30 min…i was pinchin myself and didnt knw whether it was a dream or reality…unforgettable day in my life!!!

There were similar articles after the stupendous success of varalaaru saying that from then on its goin to be THALA all the way and when the expectations were on an alltime high THALA came out with all guns blazing with one of the biggest duds of his career Aalwar.....and it also coincided with his opponent's superhit which made things even worse for him.

Ayngaran hunts for a director for Ajith

The renowned Ayngaran International has signed Ajith, Prabhu Deva and Vijay for their future projects. Ajith after completing Billa 2007 would be starting a project for the production house from December 2007 for which a suitable director is being sought.

The combination of Ajith and Prabhu Deva would be something new in Kollywood, but the latter is currently busy in Bollywood directing Salman Khan in the Hindi version of Pokkiri, which is likely to get completed next year.

Meanwhile commercial directors like K S Ravikumar, Lingusamy, Hari and Saran are also being considered. However Ravikumar’s first preference would be to direct Rajinikanth for which talks are said to be going on. Hari plans to do a movie with Bharath after Vel, while Lingusamy has few projects in his mind, one of them being a script for Paruthiveeran Karthik. Yup !!

LIke how many other said, he should choose the right team and right scripts. I realized this only in Kireedom (camera work). Let us hope that he continue to do that in the future as well. He has completed 15 years in the field and he should not REPEAT what HE DID back THEN !

Not really. "Experience / Mistakes it the best teacher". We can only comment on things from an outer perspective without understanding the reality and things that might have gone in the background. There are many stars who could have made it big without support in the initial stages. But they did had their own GUIDES to streamline their activities. For Ajith, it is not there and HE IS SPECIAL. & I do have few examples of STARTS who are in the industry for 30 to 40 years and still they deliver DUDS consistently. It might look as if I am defending ajith for everything. IT is not quite true. A "Dud" itself varies from person to person. I love RED which many find as a Dud. Only we can realise how good it was and infact I love to see movies like Red (Prob with a better director. Script was good. execution was pretty bad)
If ajith has to improve on script selection, then it would be quite wrong. He should improve his knowledge in controlling the execution of a script so that it will satisfy atleast the fans. Execution is the primary thing that he has to concentrate on.

I do agree that Aanjaneyaa, Jana, PMS, TPT, AALWAR are all duds but I do like Raja and RED.

Aalwar and Anniyan might have similarities but Aalwar was poorly executed.

No Corleone, You got it wrong. The point here is Ajith coming out with a dud after a Blockbuster in Varalaaru. Iti s not Anniyan. The screenplay in the flashback sequence resembled Ghajini a lot. The ending was ||| to Indian & not Anniyan

The title card read "Avataaram thodarum". I think the same thing (Indian is still in my memory. Not sure about others) was appreciated with Anniyan. I dont see any point here. All these are clear lifts from ANniyan. May be U r happy to say that it’s a kamal movie remade ( due to your understandings with Kamal fans here ) but the hard fact remains that the movie by and large is an Anniyan , remade too fast.

Again, Anniyan is a lift from many of SHankar’s old movies like Gentleman, Indian, MUdhalvan etc . I am not surprised with SHankar as he is known for such similar public awareness themes but to retry a same successful theme, one should have chosen a good director like SHankar. Not half baked guys.

How can any one judge that the director is a half baked guy or not, when he has not directed a single movie before? AppadipArthA - every body should do movies with established directors only. Even then established directors too had given duds. ellarum oru nambikkaila thaan padam pannuraanga. It clicks - like for Shankar in gentleman, S J Surya in Vaali, A R Murugadas in "Dheena" , Saran in "Kadhal Mannan", Durai in "Mugavari, AL Vijay in Kreedom etc etc and fails at times. Fortunately or unfortunately Ajith has been very successful with debutant directors and that's the main reason I think, he is prompted to do movies with freshers. What to do, it fails sometimes. But with all that bad decisions he had made, I would still appreciate him for taking that 'extra' risk and encouraging the debutants and giving them that most needed break in their lifetime Not Worthy

Whatever you say, I do agree Mohanlal films and Malayalam films are top class. But Tamil films are commercial based and is totally different from Malayalam. Ajith will perform through his own style even if it is a remake or not. But it would be better if Ajith avoids remakes and go for newer themes.

Thanks for the same. But everyone cannot hide their natural behaviour. I defend ajith for few things that stands out as an exception. That is why many feel it as quite weird. Based what I knew, I argue. I know the mistakes he did and some what I know under what circumstances he did. Not that I justify that. But bashing him for anything wont be good. Many people like you care for him. I agree. We care in our own way and that is the difference.

We are not sure of whether Ajit would act in it. But the scoop doing rounds in kollywood and media sources is Adlabs have bought the remake rights of LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI. It seems Ajit has been approached by adlabs to do the munnabhai role and Jayam Ravi as Circuit. They are also planning for a music gala with Yuvan Shankar Raja probably scoring the music. But all said, we are unsure whether Ajit would accept this at all!

About 50% of 'Billa' has been completed. Ajith is paired with Nayantara in this film. The other heroine is Namitha. It is directed by Vishnuvardhan who directed 'Arindhum Ariyamalum' and 'Pattiyal.' Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

This re-make film was shot in Malaysia. When Ajith was taken ill, shooting had to be cancelled. Now Ajith has recovered. The crew is slogging to finish the dialogue portions and get the film released for Deepavali.

Ajith is particular that once this film is complete, he should be ready to start on his next project. Accordingly he has given call sheet to London producer Karunaas. Till now the director had not been decided upon. But now, that has also been decided. The director is none other than dance director Raju Sundaram, the brother of Prabhu Deva.

He was supposed to have directed 'Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram,' the remake of Kannada film 'Jogi' and starring Dhanush. He did direct a few scenes too, but after that, the film was directed by Suresh Krishna.

Hope the same thing does not happen in the Ajith film!

During the early phase of his career he just went ahead with newbies bcos Ajith himself was upcoming and never in huge demand by the established directors.

After Dheena THALA surged ahead of his competitors and after Villain he was well and truly ahead of his competitors.
He claimed in an interview before Anjaneya that he was NUMBER ONE among the younger generation which was very TRUE.
But he lost that place only bcos of his POOR CHOICES and nothing else.

He came up with Anjaneya and Jana after villain, during which his competitors came up with Gilli, Saamy, kakka kakka(which THALA rejected), etc. That made things worse for him.

But IMHO Ajith is somewhat consistent after Attagasam. The only flop was Aalwar. Ji had a grand opening and recovered its cost. Kreedam too is an average hit. The other four did very well in the BO.

Ajit has signed a new film for Ayngaran International, which will be directed by choreographer Raju Sundaram. Shriya is going to be one of the heroines in the film.

The shoot of the film will start in December, once Billa is completed and releases for Diwali. The London based K.Karunamoorthy, Chairman of Ayngaran International, who has recently tied up with `Eros entertainment` is going to produce a Tamil film for the first time. Karunamoorthy has been for years the leading overseas Tamil distributor.

Raju Sundaram who was to debut as a director with a Dhanush film earlier, but opted out is going to direct Ajit for the first time. It will be a typical Ajit mass masala entertainer.

K.S Ravi Kumar was originally supposed to do the film, as his combination with Thalai had clicked in the past with films like Villain and Vararaalu. But Ravi Kumar is busy with Dasavatharam and also holding discussions with the superstar for his next film.

Ayngaran International is planning to release the film for Summer 2008, probably on May 1, Ajit’s birthday.

Certain occurrences can have no explanations. Ajith’s faithful fan following, for instance! For all that the actor has had his share of rises and reversals. Yet till date the opening an Ajith release commands remains unsurpassed. The recent 'Kireedam’ exemplifies it further. “I can only humbly thank the people for the love they shower on me,” he smiles. On August 3, the actor completed a fruitful 15 years in the industry.

For some time Ajith had retreated into a shell — a sabbatical of sorts from the media. “Somewhere deep down I began to feel that with too many interviews circulating, people could get the impression I’m narcissistic, while the truth is far from it. That’s when I thought it was time for silence and re-assessment.”

Frank exchanges

But such stoic silence gave way to many assumptions. “I know! And believe me, remaining unprovoked through all the back-stabbing and canard isn’t easy. But I don’t wish to give importance to people who indulge in it, by reacting to them. None can gain mileage from slinging mud at me. All celebrities go through it. You either stay back or walk away. I opted for the former,” he says.

With no Godfather, and absolutely ignorant about the ways of the industry, Ajith has managed a marathon on his own. He was just around 22 when his first hit, ‘Aasai,’ happened. “I made mistakes and learnt from them. I allowed myself to be surrounded by riff-raff and got carried away,” he candidly accepts. Though bruised and battered over the years, both physically and psychologically, today Ajith stands tall with his success quotient intact.

Solid family support and grit are his strengths. “The brash young Ajith is gone. Now I’m probably turning philosophical and even spiritual. I read a lot and it has made me realise the transience of fame and fortune. Agreed, it’s a rat race everywhere, but let’s move on … live and let live!”

Happiness is a state of mind. It has nothing to do with success or failures, Ajith believes. “I’m happy. If today God appeared before me and said my days on the Earth are over, I wouldn’t mind. Only that I’d ask him for some time to experience and enjoy fatherhood,” winks this dad-to-be.

“My hardcore fans have stood by me through thick and thin. My parents are around to see me growing and so is my circle of friends,” he says.

Of course, wife Shalini is the focal point of his life. He smiles: “Sure. She has brought about positive changes in me. She gave up a very successful career to marry me and I’ll never forget that.”

He’s undergone 14 surgeries and his spine has been fused at three levels! But Ajith has always bounced back into circulation. A medical marvel almost! “I’ve been through hell. I want all the ailing folks out there to know that if you have the determination you can overcome the worst obstacles… The best part is the risky stunts I do have never gone awry. But simple stuff such as jumping off a stool, have confined me to bed!” he laughs.

Laughing it off

Ajith is one of the most imitated actors at every mimicry show. “Even some of the best SMS jokes are on me. I enjoy them and forward them to my friends. I’m mature enough to take these things in my stride.”

Born of a Sindhi mother (from Kolkata) and a Keralite father, Ajith began speaking Tamil only after entering films. And for that his diction and pronunciation are amazing. “I’ve lived in Tamil Nadu since childhood,” he explains.

His elder brother is into stocks and his younger sibling has settled down in Seattle, after graduating from IIT Madras, and a Masters abroad. “I had twin sisters but they died very young,” he ruminates. Ajith’s philanthropy is little known. “Once I talk about it, it means publicity, and the purpose gets defeated,” he says. So he prefers not to dwell on the Mohini-Mani Foundation in his parents’ names, either. The only Hindi film Ajith worked in is ‘Ashoka.’ “Santosh Sivan offered it to me and Shah Rukh Khan called me up saying he wanted me to do the role ,” he smiles.

What does he look for when he signs on the dotted line? “Compatibility!” is the surprising reply. “ If you can’t vibe with the director, work can become torture,” he explains.

His next film after ‘Billa’ will be directed by Raju Sundaram. When out of the blue Ajith says, “I believe in the ‘KISS’ policy,” you look at him perplexed. “‘Keep It Simple, Stupid!’ is what it stands for. Life would be simpler if you take one step at a time and don’t get rattled by irrelevant issues.”

Leafing through a racer’s diary

Mention racing and Ajith’s eyes light up. “I began racing two-wheelers at 18,” he begins. Though cars were equally enticing and Ajith was good at driving them, bikes were an affordable option at that point in time. During the pract ice session (for Group E bikes up to 1100 cc) for the National Championships Ajith met with a major accident.It was in 2002 that he got back into the racing ring, this time with single-seater cars, and acquitted himself creditably in the Formula Maruti National Championships that year. Again in the 14 events held in five Asian countries — China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Korea — for the BMW Asian Championship, Ajith notched up a creditable 12th overall position out of 32 international contestants. “Though it was an Asian event, it had racers from all over the world including Australia. My best in an individual race at the Championship was fourth,” he says.

The actor-sportsman then set his eyes on the British Formula 3 Championship Scholarship Class, a stepping stone to Formula1. “ Here 300 kmph is the speed we are talking about and I comfortably managed 290. Twice I was on the victory stand winning the third place at the Donington Park and Knock Hill Circuits.”

At the end of the day, Ajith feels gratified that he has represented his country at the international level. But what is disconcerting to him is the insipid response from his fraternity. “A pat on the shoulder would have helped. Instead I got a kick on my back,” he shrugs.

After interval he picks heroine in the bike and again goes round and round with graphics again. Finally heroines boyfriend comes and picks the heione and says "AthU" and is the End of the movie.......

Why i suggested this story is simple.....
Bcoz this movie never involves comedy, sentiments, dialogues, dance and etc a normal should have except travelling in bike in which he is the best...

Thala fans My quote is Ajith is a good person but never a good actor....

Last week I had a discussion about the Opening powers of Ajith and Vijay in our office during lunch hours.

I said Ajith is King opening. His opening is guaranteed for any day and he can assure the 100% openings in all his releases and I gave lot of links stating the same.

But few of my collegues said Even Vijay movies can also have 100% opening for first 2 days of its release. So how come we can call Ajith is king of opening.

I don’t know how to put my counter arguments for this. And I kept mum. I am not very good in Kollywood trade since I come From Andhra.

Ajith is my second favorite actor in Tamil. So I supported him a lot but I couldn’t give the valid points about his opening.

So can any one clarify me in what way Ajit’s opening is better than Other actors of his generation?

Thottaal poo malarum hero sakthi(p.vasu's son?) is a Thala fan. He said that in a video interview.
