1 THING I HATE ABOUT BEING INDIAN

Why do Indian people think the lighter you are the prettier and the better you are... It makes me sick! Have you noticed all of INDIA's beauty pageant contestents are all light skinned. It's obvious Indian people discriminate against skin color!!!

I know sooo many beautiful Indian girls that are smart and got everything to win pageants except for they're not the right skin color. When is India going to realize beauty comes in all colors???? WHEN WILL INDIA HAVE A BROWN BEAUTY REPRESENT HER IN A WORLD PAGEANT????? that'll be the day!!! And all the ACTRESSES and MODELS are all light skinned too. I'M SOOOO SICK OF IT!!! THE INDIAN MEDIA IS THE ONE WHO PUTS THIS ALL OUT... AND MAKES DARK LITTLE GIRLS GROWING UP THINK THEY'RE NOT PRETTY ENOUGH OR GOOD ENOUGH CAUSE THEY'RE NOT LIGHT!!

They even got skin lightening creams(fair creams) which is suppose to make you lighter.. people are ignorant enough to buy this thinking they're going to get lighter not knowing skin color is genetic.

  What are you guys/gals all talkin about? Lets all face it, Fair skin is really appealing and beautiful. This DOES not imply that the person with the fair skin is BEAUTIFUL. I think there is a great deal of "confusion of issue" here. I know so many girls that are white as hell, but dont look as good as some of my other friends who are quite a few shades darker, but have awesome looks and vice versa. But, there is no doubt, that lighter skin is DEFINITELY internationally aclaimed as the so called " outstanding color"). And let me just say that I am not that light skinned.. I am a tanned North Indian, and actually brown. So, people its not that I'm rascitst against dark skinned people or anything. I'm just trying to be logical about the issue.

  I think that this issue is sad but truthful. I am African American and this has been going on in our community for many of years. I am a dark skin woman and all I can remember growing up is that I wanted to be lighter. Light skin has been an on going trend. When is it going to end? All my life I have dated light skin men because my child can come out light so they wouldn't have the insecurities that I have had all my life. It has a lot to do with the media. On movies all you see it light skin and most of the “beautiful models” are light skinned. If more dark skin women are given the same opportunities as light skin women we can become equal.

  I am a 20 yrs old Guyanese female of Indial decent and have alway been disgusted at India's distorted definition of beauty! Many Indians are so brainwashed by the media. Even a dark skinned actor like Sunil Shetty does not get chosen to be the main star of a movie, he is picked to play the antagonist. Personally, I love my dark skin. Lots of people, especially men, especially white men compliment me on my "golden brown skin" and "exotic look". I enhance my exotic look by trying to look more Indian,(for example wearing Indian jewelry everyday and wearing a sari so I stand out at a party), rather than trying to look white. I have confidence and is at peace with my identy, but I am afraid of the damage it can do to little dark Indian and African girls.

  U want to know what makes me sick? I was in the local Hare Krishna resturant and i saw a childrens book on the shelf. I picked it up and had a look. It was an indian book, and there were two 'goodies' both with white skin - not light:WHITE skin and blue eyes, and they were pitted against the 'baddies' who were all brown skinned and Indian looking. This just made me snort in disgust!! If white people illustrated this book, youd say 'racism' but this book was written by Indians!!!

  I'm a light skin, blonde haired, blue eyed girl and i admire darker skin women because most of them are beautiful. Also most of the guys i know would rather have a more exotic girl by their side.   So called "dark skin "color, so what if a person is dark? is it the end of the world? are all blondes that pretty to make dark skin people lose their insecurities and confidence ? I believe every color has its own texture of beauty,I'm white but I'm not pretty, I have a friend shes i dark and so damn pretty that I personely cant stop lookin at her admiring her skin color..!!I cant see no diff between white skin people and dark skin people ,,whats the point of being white!   In most cultures,the lighter skined people are thought of as better looking.Why?because light skin is a sign of youth and fertility.Darker skin is a sign of old age.Everyone gets darker with age.Also in general men are darker than women.If you don't believe me look it up.A good book is "Survival of the Prettiest"by Nancy Etcoff.

  You mean to say that pure blood africans with very dark skin are all old? WHat of the ebony children? are they old?
  Also, men are not darker than women (im assuming your talking about a man and woman of the same race). Its just that in the media, when u see a man and woman together in a romantic coupling, the man is usually darker. This is the casting agents choice, u dopey bytch!
  The women u see on the media are lite because our racist media says the lighter the woman the prettier.

  Hi everyone. I was reading this and I to find it very odd. I am an african american (blk and native american) and this goes on in our culture as while. My opinion of indians is this, when I see a dark skinned Indian I think they are the pretties things I've ever seen. Because of there dark skin and beautiful hair. Also I do agree with the responces before about the lighter the better. But remember, just because your dark yourself and you want your kids to be light, don't think by dating a lighter person that will make your child light. It depends on the person's backround. I love all skin tones. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :)
