Hello all. My literary summer seems to have gotten off to a great start after I discovered A.S.Byatt and her genius a couple of weeks ago. I am now greedily and contentedly devouring her novels, novellas, and short stories one by one and would like to celebrate the brilliance of her art by connecting with the other Byattophiles out there.
I've read "Possession" and "The Virgin in the Garden" and among the umpteen virtues of both these works, one thing that particularly impressed me was her expert and extensive use of metaphor and allegory; re: The connection between the development and enactment of Alexander's play about Queen Elizabeth's coronation and Frederica's coming of age in "The Virgin.." and so on.
Hope we can get this discussion thread off the ground.
